*London; July 15, midnight. -4n the
Rouse of Commons this evening, the
Irish, Church Bill, as amended in the
Rouse of Lords. came up for cohisider,
ation. After spirited . discussions, the
House divided and the amendment
with respect to . Endowments, was dis-
agreed to by a vote of 346 to 222. The
amendment giving glebe lands free,
was also lostby a vote of 326 th 237,
and the amendment granting .glebes to
Catholic's and Presbyterian's N as nen-,
Lived 'without any discnssion.. Meet-
ings of the people in support of the
Commons on the Irish Church 1311.1„are
being held in all: parts of the country.
London, July 16.-Thoprotest a-
gainst the Irish Church Bill ..,by Earl
Derby is sighed by 47 of the Peers::'. It.
Was entered against the Billon the
ground that it looked to the severance
of Church and State, a project unrecog-
nized 'by any country in Europe. _ The
adoption of the Bill would encourage
the designs of hose who want such
severance extended throughout the.
f United Kingdom, together with the re-
sumption of grants and the confiscation
of property. The protest further states
that the passage of the Bill was a vio-
lent stretch of the power of Parliament
which shakes confidence in all property.
The protest set forth. the impossibility
of putting the disestablishment and clis-
endowed church on the footing and
organization of the Catholics, and that
this grievance caused the alienation of
the Irish Protestants, who. were loyal
supporters of the Throne, and stimul-
ated the Catholics to larger demands.
At Lurgan, in Ireland, on the .1 2th,
an Orange mob was pelted with stones
They retaliated by _ utterly destroying
seventeen houses occupied by the Cath-
olics. The wooclivork of the buildings
and the furniture were then carried out
into the street and burned. Order.had
been restored at the latest advices. At
Newry an Orange r Hall was attacked
by a Catholic party, The `t occupants
.fired at their assailants, 'who. were soon
driven : off, leaning three of their num-
ber ou the field badly wounded:
London, July 16, -In the House of
Commons the consideration of the Irish
Chuich Bill was continued. The am-
endment granting half a million pounds
foi private endowments, was agreed to.
The amendment.continuing the Ulst' i
grants, was reje3te °by a vote of 345
to 240.
- The .amendment proposed by the
Loads for the postponing of t'ae sh,r,)lus
funds - was lost b`y a vote of 29Q to 218
After the rejetion of the amend-
ment proposed by the Peers. Mr. Dis-
raeli took the flo:)r and spoke' at some -
length. . He regretted the . repudiation
of the amendment adopted in the House
of Lords.. The Church was not the
que t:ou at issue at the late elections.
He thought the agreement of the Lords
to read the Bill aseccondtime- was an
:;t of magnanimity, considering the
great : majority unfavourable to the
measure ; and this agreement was only
given on the :understanding that the
House of Commons woulu consider the
anleu dnients adopted in a conciliatory
-spirit. He could not Understand how
the course Government had taken could
be reconciled to the expectations held
out t) the loose of Lords.
Mr. Glad stone replied to the remark.
saying tbat the promise given to the
Hous;; of Lords was that amendments
which could be .. approted would be res-
peetively'considered. and he maintain:-
ed.
aintain-ed that pledge had not he violated. He
had conceded nnuch inn deferance to the
Lords, and had fulfilled more than all
the: pledges given. He : was Certain
If any harm. had been done ` to the
Church, it was by those who described
'the grievous and enervating effect dis-
establish Men _ would have -on the zeal
and Eifel of /lie religious community.
London, July 17. -It Is said that
the House of Lords will give up' their
a i endre'ents to the Irish Church B 11
in regard to concurrent endowment_ and
Ulster grant, but will adhere to the
amendment refusing to devote tlhe
surplus proceeds of Church .property to
the relief of unavoidable -c dan:ity and
suffering as proposed iu the original
preamble, . and deferring the appropri-
atian of the funds.
