TREE ROOTS.—The editor of the
Gardener's _Monthly says he found, nea: -
ly twenty-five years ego, that the coot
fibres ef trees , wet e only annual—like
the leaves, they che every year. Tney
have the same relation to , the main
roots as tne leaves have tdthe.branche,
except that while the leaves are the
'preparers of food—the -Q001,:is—the _he-
els aro the providers -e -the nusbandrnen
for, the cooks. Take up very carefully
a young tree, and we find tjliat the f:10
ers-are nearly a1ion the 'g•urfaCe, .and
that they decrease number and im-
portan.ce with every inch of depth. In
the largest trees $ar.e1y a fiber will be
found one root f om the top. Large
roots—tap i•octs , you. limy and will
find, but no root het is. of the: slightest

method for getting rid of stinlipe with-
