They sputtered Sunday against resurgent Lambeth, losing 4-1. Lucan led 3-0 after the first peri- od against Thamesford, thanks to goals from Zack Yeo and two goals from Nick Engel. Engel added his third goal in the second period, putting Lucan ahead 4-0 after 40 minutes. Yeo struck again midway through the third period before Thamesford s Josh Van Eck net- ted a power play goal with 9:58 remaining. Lucan s Alex Regan added the game s final goal with 17 seconds remaining. Irish goalie Trevor Pearce had 36 saves in the win. Friday s game against North Middlesex was tightly contested, the score tied 1-1 after the first pe- riod. Lucan s goal was scored by Kevin Dean and assisted by Engel and Adam Hartman. North Middlesex scored the first goal of the second period but Lu - can s Tyler Medd answered with a power play tally assisted by Yeo and Hartman. Engel and Mike Spenser added Irish goals in the third period, putting the team ahead for good. North Middlesex scored a power play goal late in the game but failed to tie it. Pearce had 29 saves. Sunday against Lambeth the Irish trailed 1-0 after the first pe- riod due to a goal by Lambeth s Kevin Pennington. Lambeth scored again early in the second period but Lucan s Jim- my Kim got his team on the board with less than one minute remain- ing. Lambeth added two more goals late in the game, making the final score 4-1. Pearce had 25 saves in the loss. Jets within one point of first place after two weekend wins By Ben Forrest of unbelievable saves. TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF LUCAN After recent wins against Exeter (3-2) and formidable Petrolia (2-1), the Lucan Ilderton Jets sit among the top three teams in their division. The Jets got the better of the rival Exeter Mohawks in a game that saw J.D. McFarlan and Kyle Smith (two goals) lead the offense. Perhaps more impressive was their win against Petrolia, a team that had suffered only one loss this season before they met the Jets on Saturday. They have 15 players in their lineup with AAA hockey expe- rience that played in the best senior hockey league in Canada, said Jets general manager Rob An- drews. To play a team of that calibre and beat them, I mean that s a feather in our hat. He noted Petrolia has been in a number of close games this year but has typically come out on top. Andrews hopes getting the bet- ter of such a game will improve his team s confidence as the season progresses. Good teams win those close games, he said. We re a young team and they re hitting [their] stride at the right time, I hope. We re definitely getting the good goaltending, we re getting the bounces, we re getting the breaks. When the guys are working hard, you re going to get those breaks. The Jets were up 1-0 after the first period thanks to a goal from Dan Crowley. Martin Krayzel added another in the second period, put- ting the Jets ahead for good. Andrews called the play of Jets goaltender K.J. Robinson ou- standing in both games. The game against Exeter he played his usual strong game in net, but against Petrolia on Satur- day night he was outstanding, Andrews said. He made a couple Andrews noted Petrolia s goal - tender also made a number of big saves. It was a good goaltenders game, he said. It was a good game all around. Andrews said he was happy with how the weekend went, not- ing the Jets figured being among the division s top eight teams by Christmas would be good. Now it looks at Christmastime like we re going to be in the top four teams, he said. Andrews believes the parity among the top teams is close, and that come playoff time there won t be much difference between the team that finishes first and the team that finishes eighth. If Lucan Ilderton finishes among the top four, it will have home ice advantage for at least part of the playoffs, something Andrews thinks would bode well for his team. We re playing really well at home, he said. You always hope that s an ace you have in the hole when you come into playoff time, to get that extra playoff game at home if you need it. Dec. 20 the Jets play their final game before the Christmas break, a home game in Lucan against Thedford. Thedford has been struggling a little bit, but you can t afford to let up against a team like that, said Andrews. They ve had their moments this year when they ve played some of the top teams and played them really tough. Regardless of who you re play- ing, you ve got to be ready, and hopefully we 11 come out on top again. Andrews added he hopes many in the community will come out to Jets games in the future, saying he thinks others will be surprised at the calibre of hockey played in their home town. The girls showed as they did in the Exeter toumament that they belong in the "B" divi- sion. London provided stronger opposition but our girls won the day with some great passing, defence and very timely saves from Amanda H. in goal to secure the clean sheet. With the level of competition now higher it will be all the more important to play dis- ciplined Ringette especially when there are some girls missing. Goals: Emma, Mackenzie, Assist Sarah D.
