Judy Mills explained that Peter Gummow had laryngitis and wasn't able to lead wor- ship. She welcomed everyone to the third Sunday in Advent and explained that she and Larry Skinner would lead worship. Marjorie Johns was pianist for some love- ly Christmas hymns including 0 Come, 0 come, Emmanuel; A Candle is Burning; Come Thou Long -Expected Jesus; and Angels From the Realms of Glory. Brent Caslick read the Minute for Mission about a food bank supported by Mission and Service Funds of the United Church. The choir's anthem was The Birthday of a King. Instead of a children's story, the Sunday School children shared a wonderful skit entitled Why White Gifts? about the first White Gift Service which was held in a Methodist church in 1904. Since that time, it has spread to many religions and church- es to share in providing for the less fortu- nate. Thanks very much to Brad Skinner for organizing the skit and to Elora, Jason, Mikenzie, Rikki-Lee and Deandra for tell- ing this story. White gifts were collected and will be con- tributed to the Huron County Christmas Bureau. Thank you to all who contributed! Stacey and her daughter Elora lit the three candles on the Advent wreath representing peace, joy and love. Judy explained that Peter had e-mailed his sermon to her, so she read it for him. At this special time of year, please remem- ber in your thoughts and prayers the fam- ily and friends of Herman Gower and Ernie Robinson upon their recent passing. Their families have experienced a very difficult year. Please also remember all those who are ill, grieving, or experiencing other dif- ficulties in your thoughts and prayers. Judy read a thank you note from Dave Williams who organized the recent cooking with memories BY DEBBY WAGLER OIIRISTmflS Jam ARE YOU SCRAMBLING FOR A SPECIAL GROUP TYPE GIFT? WHY NOT TRY THIS JAM. Capsule Comments by Ernie Miatello It's never too late to start exercising. Six months of endurance exercise could reverse 30 years of inactivity. However, start slowly and work up to 30 minutes of moderate exercise 5-7 days per week. If you have a chronic health condition, your doctor should be consulted before starting any exercise program. If you are using one of those pressurized metered -dose in- halers to help your breathing, it is important to coordinate your inhaling with the release of the medication from the spray. If you have trouble with this, ask our pharmacists about a "spacer'. It's a plastic device that suspends the medication in a chamber to allow more time to inhale. Treating morning sickness during pregnancy can be difficult. Most products available contain vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) with another medication. Some women find supplementing with plain vitamin B-6 at a dose of 25mg three times a day is a safe and effective way of treating the problem. Some herbal remedies are best not taken with regular medi- cation. One good example is goldenseal. This herb suppresses two important enzymes that help break down many medica- tions so they can be excreted from the body. The combina- tion would make the regular drug last longer in the body and perhaps lead to side effects. Huron Apothecary Ltd.
