Paul Ross EXETER UNITED CHURCH Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among all people -Luke2:14 Throughout this Christmas season, these words express our hope for a world free of violence and our dream of a world at peace. Similarly, each year our dream is shattered and our hope is lost with new acts of violence and warfare. Nevertheless, we do not forsake our dream or re- fuse to hope. With the annual appearance of Christ- mas, the cycle of hoping and dreaming is repeated. I believe we are called to do more than perpetuate this cycle. I believe we are called to put an end to it. We can do this by creating conditions that promote peace and sustain peace. There will be peace on earth when everyone is well fed; receives an education; has affordable and avail- able housing; has access to total health care. There will be peace on earth when the wealthy nations of the world cease their oppression of the world s poorest nations. There will be peace on earth when the poorest nations of the world are free to produce food to feed their own people. There will be peace on earth when there is fair and equal social justice for everyone and not just for those who can afford it. There will be peace on earth when we truly respect the environment and start living in harmony with it rather than in opposition to it. There will be peace on earth when individually, we establish peace within ourselves. There will be peace on earth when we identify and root out the causes of our anger, resentment, greed and dissatisfaction with ourselves. Until we do this, we will not succeed in establish- ing peace with others and peace in our world. In whatever way you celebrate Christmas, do not give up your hopes and your dreams for peace. While you are at it, do what you can to help your hopes and dreams for peace come true. A GO BY CHARLOJIL HARTMAN GR.3 ST. BONIFACE, ZURICH Christmas poem By Zoe Bilcke Gr. 5 Exeter P.S. The star on top of the Christmas tree shines on the wall and back at me. It s so beautiful it s so bright, it s on all Christmas night. Santa came with his reindeer. He came down and danced over here. His big beard, his cheery nose and left with a ho, ho, ho. I unwrapped my toys to see what s inside. My sister and me were as happy as pride. I received a card game, she got the same. We were both playing the Twister game. The beauty of Christmas is why Christmas keeps liv- ing so have a happy holiday and have a joyous Christmas day. I smell some good cookies in the oven. I hear the bells ring as the reindeer stop on the roof. I taste gingerbread cookies smoothly going down my throat. I touch the star that goes at the top of the tree. Christmas By Olivia Shipley Grade 4/5, Biddulph Central School Dear Santa Claus One time I coloured on the wall and I said that Blake did it.
