Beta Alpha Master Chapter meetings
EXETER-BetaAlphaMasterChaptermetatthehome
of Maida Gaiser who was assisted by Joanne Bowen
on Nov. 4. In the absence of the president, Bev Del -
bridge conducted the business portion of the meeting.
Jay Skillender, social committee chairman an-
nounced that the Christmas party joint with our
sister chapter, Beta Theta, would be held on Dec.
2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Masonic Hall. Everyone is to
bring a donation for the Food Bank. June Essery
was the lucky winner of the ways and means draw.
South Huron Hospital s cardiac
stress test clinic
Joanne Bowen spoke about the Cardiac Stress Test
Clinic at the South Huron Hospital. It is a tread-
mill exercise to see how well the heart works. It
can provide evidence of coronary artery narrow-
ing and information regarding your level of fit-
ness. The hospital is also raising funds to obtain
a Bone Mineral Density Scanner in the spring of
2009. This is a special x-ray machine which takes
pictures and measures the mineral content of the
density of your bones and is used to diagnose Os-
teoporosis which makes bones thin and brittle lead-
ing to increase risk of fractures. The test results
can help your doctor develop a treatment plan if
needed. Both these tests require a doctor s referral.
The music of the French Horn
Joanne then introduced Devon Martene who played
various styles of music, such as folk, jazz, bluegrass
and country on his violin. Devon recently made his
own CD. He enjoys playing the French Horn in South
Huron s High School band and can be found jam-
ming with Harvey Smith and friends Harold Mills,
Don Finkbeiner and Ivan Norris at local functions.
Devon s hopes for the future are to acquire a degree
in music and a career in either music education or the
music business. He was thanked by Maida Gaiser.
A delicious lunch was served by the co -
hostesses. On Nov. 18 the group gathered at
the home of Lynda Deelstra assisted by Shir-
ley Walkom for an afternoon meeting. A brief
business meeting was held with final arrange-
ments for the Christmas party being announced.
Friendship was the theme of the program and the
roll call question was What You Like in a Friend.
Each person read quotations on friendship end-
ing with Friendship is like a circle that has no
end. That is as long as I want to be your friend.
Elaine Bogart won the ways and means draw.
Refreshments were served by the hostesses.
Free Internet training returns
EXETER With renewed funding from the
Community Access Program (CAP), Exeter,
Kirkton and Hensall branches of the Huron
County Library are again offering free Internet
training.
Mikayla Keller has been hired as a CAP
Internet Access Assistant for Exeter and Kirkton
branches, while Erica Murray has been hired as
a CAP Internet Access Assistant for the Hensall
branch to help people enhance their computer
and Internet skills, and even teach them how to
make a website, if interested.
I am pleased that Industry Canada and the
federal government have decided to continue to
fund this important service, said county librar-
ian Beth Ross.
The use of the Internet computers at our
branches continues to grow every year, and peo-
ple need to improve their skills to keep up with
the fast -paced changes of the Internet.
In addition to basic computer and Internet
skills, the CAP Internet Access Assistants can
teach people how to participate in online activi-
ties such as blogs, wikis, photo sharing and
other interactive Internet initiatives.
Training sessions are conducted on a one-on-
one basis, with some special events taking place
as well. Users can learn how to start their own
blog, build their own website, participate in
online live chatting or anything about using a
computer or searching the Internet.
The Community Access Program training
began in all of the Huron County library branch-
es in early November and will run until the end
of March 2009.
Interested learners can make an appointment
by calling Exeter Library at 235-1890, Kirkton
Library at 229-8854 or Hensall Library at
262-2445. This Internet training is also available
at all branches of the Huron County Library.
