UCW Christmas meeting Dec. 9 at 8 p.m.

THAMES ROAD - Bethlehem
Walk - A good crowd attended
the Bethlehem Walk at K -W Com-
munity Centre on Friday evening.
Ray Switzer welcomed everyone
to the seventh annual Bethlehem
Walk. Ray mentioned the church-
es that were in attendance name-
ly, Centralia, Crediton Kirkton
UC, St. Paul s Anglican Church
Kirkton, Thames Road-Elimville,
Thames View Fullarton, Wood-
ham, Zion.Wally Pfaff had many
kerosene lamps on each table.
The choir sang two numbers in
the hall Have You Heard The Story
of The Baby Boy? and Away In the
Manger conducted by Beth Coo-
per and accompanied by Joanne
Blacker, Cameron Denham on the
drum and Matt Brine on the gui-
tar.
The choir sang Christmas Car-
ols when the people went outside
to the stable where Mary and Jo-
seph and the baby Jesus were,
portrayed by Ben and Karen Gei-
ger and infant daughter Kamryn.
Refreshments prepared by the
Pathfinder Girls was partaken of
which brought a very nice eve-
ning to a close. Thanks to every-
one who took part and to those
who helped.
Church service
The first Advent Sunday church
service was held on Sunday morn-
ing with Rev. Judith Ritchie in
charge. The church upstairs was
beautifully decorated with the
Christmas tree lit and lights and
greenery along the railing and
greenery in the windows.
Rev. Judith lit the red candle for
Peace. Everyone sang the opening
hymn Come, Thou Long Expected Je-
sus.
Rev. Judith gave words of Wel-
come and everyone passed the
peace.
A new introit A Candle is Burning
was sung.
Rev. Judith led in the call to wor-
ship responsively and everyone
read the opening prayer.
Rev. Judith gave the announce-
ments, and read the Old Testa-
ment Lesson Isaiah 64:1-9. Rev.
Judith told the children about the
candles and the advent wreath.
Zach Kadey lit the first purple
candle in the advent wreath for
hope.
Everyone sang The Lord s Prayer.
Psalm 80 was read responsively.
The choir sang An Ancient Gospel
accompanied by a CD.
Anne Kernick read the Gospel
Lesson from Mark 13:32-37.
The title of Rev. Judith s message
was The Best Laid Plans.
The hymn All Poor Ones and
Humble was sung. The affirma-
tion of our faith A New Creed
was read.
Helen Kadey and Dennis Rowe
received the offering. The Doxol-
ogy was sung and everyone read
the offertory prayer. Rev. Judith
gave prayers for the people. Ev-
eryone sang the closing hymn
Great is Thy Faithfulness.
Rev. Judith gave the commis-
sioning and pronounced the bene-
diction. Everyone sang the Choral
Benediction.

Rev. Judith wishes to thank
UCW members for their help and
support at the service in Exeter
Villa on Wed., Nov. 26. Your pres-
ence really makes a difference.
Bethlehem Walk: Thanks to the
many! To everyone who helped
in any way and/or participated in
the Bethlehem Walk. Many hands
(and voices) and many, many
hours go into helping to make our
annual event a success.
Huron County Christmas Bu-
reau donations to be dropped off
at Exeter Christian Reform Church
between Dec. 8 to Dec. 12.
All the committees are to meet
on Wednesday (tonight) at 7 p.m.
and the council will meet at 8:15 in
the church basement.
Next week is the first Sunday
of the month - don t forget your
items for the food bank.
Dec. 7 and 14 - A Channel at 9:30
a.m. Bruce Whitmore of the Sea -
forth area and others will be tell-
ing of their recent experiences in
Mozambique.
There will be a White Gift Ser-
vice on Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. Please
bring your gifts for the White Gift
Service.
Dec. 7 - Christmas Concert at 4:30
p.m. followed by supper prepared
by finance committee. Adults $10,
Children 6-12 $5 and 5 and under
free. Concert followed by special
guest from the North Pole. Tickets

The December meeting of the
U.C.W. will be held on Tues., Dec.
9 at 8 p.m. in the church basement.

Dec. 22 - The
Advent candle of hope lit in Hensall

HENSALL At Hensall United Church
service began with welcome and announce-
ments and the passing of the Peace. Ian
O'Neill was the minister, his sermon was
"Where Is There Hope In God?". The organ-
ist was William Gibson. Garry and Janice
Alderdice were the ushers. Jerry Traquair
was the reader and candle -lighter. Lil-
lian Beer looked after the nursery. Service
closed with benediction and choral amen.
At Carmel Presbyterian Church Rev. Andy
Meinen was the minister with Joyce Pep-
per playing the organ. Lola Nixon lit the
candle of hope and gave the reading. The
Scripture reading was from Timothy. The
offering was received by Al Hoggarth and
Frank Varley. Service closed with benedic-
tion.
On Dec. 14 Rev. Linda Moffat will conduct
communion service.
Shuffleboard scores
The Hensall shuffleboard scores for Nov
25 are as follows: (4 games) Doris Hamilton
383, Joyce Pepper 366. (3 games) Charlotte
Norton 377, Ann Van Dorren 323, Bert Back-
ert 454, Donna Smale 320.
SHDHS music department fundraiser
EXETER A fundraiser at South Huron
District High School will help fund the mu-
sic department s trip to Chicago.
The school s music department is sell-
ing mugs with the SHDHS logo on them.
Inside the mugs are a variety of items do-
nated by local businesses. The mugs cost
$10 with part of the profits funding a trip to
Chicago. If a mug is bought from a music
student, the portion of the profits from the
sale will go towards that student s trip fee.
Orders for the mugs will be taken at the
school Christmas concert tonight (Dec. 3) at
7 p.m. in the school s large gym. Mugs can
also be bought from any student going on
the trip or from the department at any time.
Mugs will be ready for pickup during the
second or third week of December.
