Plus a special surprise visit by daughter Jeannie from Calgary! Her birthday was on Nov. 20. A Bridal Shower was held for Ashley Ward on Nov. 28 at the Mennonite fel- lowship hall. She is the fiance of Dar- ryl Drudge. The couple are planning to get married in December. Ashley is the daughter of Deb and Roger Ward, Zur- ich. Be sure to attend the open house at the new building of Hay Mutual Insurance Co. built on the highway near the Zur- ich Mennonite Church. The open house is taking place this Thurs., Dec. 4 from 2 - 7 p.m. Turkey bingo Don t forget to attend the Turkey bingo at the complex tonight Wed., Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. (Doors open at 6 p.m.) This event is sponsored by the Lions Club. Agriculture Society The Agriculture Society held their an- nual Fair Board meeting with a good turn out last Thursday at the town hall with 17 members attending. Those present enjoyed some pizza be- fore the meeting then a dessert social af- terward. District 8 is putting together a cook book and wants all the area fairs to send in some recipes. Zurich Society will be hosting the am- bassador Competition next May at the Lutheran Church Hall. The convention will be held in Toronto at the Royal York Hotel from Feb. 19-21, 2009. Committee reports were given from the 08 fair and plans are now being made for our next one to be held on July 24, 25 and 26. The theme will be Recipe For Suc- cess. The Lions Club is thinking of selling 600 tickets for the elimination draw in 2009 instead of 500 as in other years The band Caveliers are booked for the Friday night dance. Nominations were held with the follow- ing results: past president Hilda Lansber- gen; president Joan VanSligtenhorst; first vice president Sylvia Neeb, and second vice president Greg 0 Brien; secretary / treasurer Margaret Deichert. The next meeting will be on Thurs., Jan. 15, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at the township hall. The Zurich Lions Club held the supper meeting at Smiley z Pizza and Pub on Nov. 26 with a good turn out. The following four new members were inducted in a ceremony by president Jim Ryan: Don Geiger, Jenny Roth, Lionel and Vicki Wilder. Plans were made for the upcoming Tur- key Bingo at the complex on Dec. 3 and Santa Claus Parade on Dec. 7 in Zurich at 5:30 p.m. Their next meeting will be on Wed., Dec. 10 at Smiley z with spouses attending for a Christmas gift exchange. A lovely Christmas tea was enjoyed by about 80 ladies on Saturday afternoon Nov. 29 at the Mennonite Church with all the tables decorated for the festive sea- son by various hostesses who also served their guests some delicious scones and Christmas cookies. We were entertained with music, sing- ing, readings and friendship. Wess and Amy Brown of Parkside sub- division spent the weekend in Port Hu- ron. Festive RIDE continues until Jan. 2 On Nov. 28, Lamb - ton OPP began the provincewide 2008 Festive RIDE Cam- paign and until Jan. 2, officers will step up the number of RIDE checkpoints to stop impaired drivers. Throughout the year, officers in Lambton have set up random RIDE checkpoints to as- sist them in lo- cating impaired drivers. Of the 163 impaired drivers charged by Lamb - ton OPP so far this year, six have been arrested at a RIDE checkpoint. St. Boniface The staff and students at St. Boniface school were saddened by the sudden death of their teacher Miss Janet Pettus on Nov. 25 who taught there for the last 16 years. She will be sadly missed by ev- eryone. The next foot care clinic at the Maple Woods apt will be on Mon., Dec. 8 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $13 and please remember to bring a towel. No ap- pointment is necessary. The Men s Breakfast will be held at Erb s Country Kitchen on Sat., Dec. 13 be- ginning at 8:30 a.m. Call Jack Baker if you need a ticket. A belated surprise farewell get-together was held for Mike Ryckman (Dashwood) on Sat., Nov. 29 at the Oakwood Pub in Grand Bend with friends, former staff and family members attending. We wish Mike all the best on his new job driving the school bus. Our annual girls night out and 72nd birthday supper for Jeanne Hay was held this year on Sat- urday at the Huron Family Res- taurant in Exeter with 13 of us attending. Carmel along with some of her daughters, daughter in laws and granddaughters helped her to celebrate. Celebrating 100 years There s going to be an old fash- ioned Threshers Meal at the Zu- rich Mennonite Church on Sat., Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m. Advance tick- ets for adults are $10 and children are $5.
