Wednesday, November 26, 2008 Times -Advocate 13 Queensway's craft and bake sale Sat., Nov. 29 HENSALL Week of Nov. 12 - Adrian Bakelaar of Bakelaar Jewelers spent Wednesday after- noon at Queensway providing his much appreciated free, "jewellery check and clean". Residents gath- ered in the retirement home acti- vation room and relaxed over re- freshments served by volunteers, Merle McLellan and Edna Deitz, while their precious jewellery was cleaned and polished to perfection by Adrian. Staff, volunteers and family members also benefited from this annual event. Everyone at Queensway ob- served the moment of silence Nov 11 following the reading of In Flanders Fields , over our PA system by retirement resident vet- eran, Margaret Hancock. Retire- ment living director Julie Grim- minck accompanied by residents Elva Peck, Ross Trewartha and Eleanor McAsh attended the Re- membrance Program at the Hen- sall Community Centre. Church services these past two weeks were led by Rev. Mary - beth Wilson of Brucefield - Kip - pen United Churches and Rev. Paul Ross of Exeter United. Belva Fuss and Marjorie Freeman were volunteer pianists for the services. Father Keller was in to minister to Catholic residents Nov. 20. Wom- en of the Bethel Reform Church in Exeter have provided assistance at the Monday bingo games this month and also led hymn sings. Residents have enjoyed getting in touch with their creative side while helping student activation assistants Cassie and Genelle with decorating our Christmas Trees. Everyone is benefiting from extra visitation, games and craft pro- grams in the evening with our two energetic students. Baking group has been quite productive, recently baking some beautiful apple crumble pies which were served as a delicious dessert choice at mealtime. Baking group is quite pleased with their prowess and plan to contribute some baked goods to the upcom- ing craft and bake sale Sat., Nov. 29 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. We hope readers visit our sale for excellent vendors, tea room and draws. Week of Nov. 19- Queensway Retirement Home has been ac- cepting donations all week for the fundraising efforts for Canadian Food for Children. Toys, non- perishable items, clothing, yarn and many other useful items will be sent overseas in the next couple of weeks. Provincial Long Term Care is donating $5000 to go to- wards assisting shipping costs for a large container. Retirement residents met on Tuesday afternoon for hot choco- late and to discuss letter writing. Wednesday afternoon our Rhythm For Life group was en- joyed. Community seniors are invited to join this toe tapping group as you will learn to play bells, chimes and drums. Manicures were enjoyed as they were pampered by Janice Butson and Julie Grimminck. The cafe had a favourite Christ- mas scent on Friday afternoon as ladies from the retirement home baked short bread cookies. Ange- la Bye assisted the group of ladies and helped decorate the cookies. As the snowflakes fell on Friday night, Marie Cyr entertained resi- dents for Friendship Friday with her musical talent on the piano. Favourite Christmas songs were played as well. At the Granton -Wesley United Church on Sun., Nov. 23, Pastor Paul Vollick led the service and baptized William Benjamin Timo- thy Harmon, son of Lisa and Bart Harmon and brother of Kaylyn (who lit the Christ candle). The Scripture readings were from Matthew 23 and Ephesians 1, and the message was entitled, Are you a goat or a sheep? Time was shared with the young people of the congregation. St. Paul s Anglican At St. Paul s Anglican Church in Kirkton on the Reign of Christ Amazing Grace Sun., Nov 23, Rev. Dalice Sim celebrated the Holy Eucharist. The message was about doing things that show love and concern for others. Kate Henry read the Lessons. The Bethlehem walk is to be held at the Kirkton-Woodham Community Centre on Fri., Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m. - a reenactment of the Christmas story in a country setting.
