The Times Advocate, 2008-11-26, Page 11Wednesday, November 26, 2008 Times -Advocate 11 SPORTS (S‘ LEISURE Ringette tourney this weekend The 25th annual Mitchell Sting- ers ringette tournament will take place at the Mitchell & District Arena Nov. 27-30, with more than 50 games scheduled to take place in bunny to belle age divisions. Two competitive 'A' divisions will be showcased, a Petite divi- sion and a Belle group, with the finals in the respective divisions beginning Sunday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. The highlight of the tournament is a National Ringette League (NRL) game on Saturday, Nov 29 at 7:30 p.m., when the Cambridge Turbos take on the Waterloo Wild- fire in a regular season game. Tickets are $5 for adults, and $2 for students six to 18 years of age. Any minor ringette player wearing their ringette jersey gets in free. Tickets are available at the door, or by contacting Kathy Viv- ian (519-348-9161) or Dan McCul- ligh (519-348-8764). ESC completes first tests of the season EXETER The Exeter Skating Club (ESC) recently had its first test day of the season. Fifty two tests were tried and 43 passed for an 83 per cent passing rate. ESC coach Kathy McLlwain said she was pleased with all the skaters determination and efforts. The club will hold two more tests this season for skaters to pass their Skate Can- ada tests. The ESC will also have over 20 skaters at a competition in Tillson- burg this weekend. We had a great game but lost to Ilderton 8-5. We had two hat tricks by Mi- chael Boyle and Jakob Partridge. SH 4 versus Ingersoll 0 Goals: Jacob Ryan (3), Jakob Par- tridge Assists: Jakob Partridge (2), Bradley Jones The Sabres win another one. Chad Crawford had a shutout and Jacob Ryan had another hat trick for the team. SH 5 versus Mt. Forest 0 Goals: Carter McLlwain (3), Michael Boyle, Jakob Partridge Assists: Cameron Hanson (2), Cam- eron Beckett, Jakob Partridge Yet another hat trick for the team, this one coming from Carter McLlwain. Chad Crawford had his second straight shutout of the tournament. The Sabres now move on to the A Finals. SH 1 versus BCH 8 Goals: Michael Boyle Assists: Scott Turner Coments: We had a quick goal scored against us and we never recov- ered. The kids had a great tournament making to the A Finals. We had four hat tricks by four different players and two shutouts by Chad Crawford. The parents are proud of how you played at the tournament. Nov 16 - SH 2 versus Glencoe 0 Goals: Jakob Partridge, Cameron Hanson Assists: Michael Boyle, Bradley Jones Comments: This was an exciting game. The Sabres scored :21 into the game. There was a lot of end-to-end ac- tion with Chad Crawford making some huge save to preserve his shutout. Cameron Hanson iced the game for the Sabres with a shorthanded empty net goal with :30 to go in the game. Awe- some game Sabres, keep up the good team work. Atom A Mt. Brydges 9 versus SH 4 Goals: Kyle Jones, Nathan McDon- (3) ald, Drew Horner, Brad Regier Assists: Drew Homer, Brad Regier, Nathan McDonald, Evan Hayter Comments: The Sabres faced off against a tough Mt. Brydges team. The boys played a good game, but could not get a bounce to go their way. The Sabres played a great passing game against Glencoe. The puck was often passed to the defense for some very strong shots from the point. Nov 11- Lucan 5 SH 1 The lone South Huron goal was scored by No. 4 Hailey Thomas as- sisted by No. 7 Avery Jantzi. The girls had practice on Wednesday which warmed them up for a tourna- ment hosted by the Stratford Aces on the weekend. Nov 14 - Game 1- Saw South Huron go up against North Halton, South Hu- ron was victorious wining 2-1. The game was very fast paced with No.16 Renee Quick scoring the first goal, assisted by No. 11 Anna Bilcke. This left the scored tied until the last 3.5 seconds of the game when No. 7 Avery Jantzi scored on a penalty shot. Game 2 saw South Huron go up against Ilderton. Despite a very strong effort from the girls, South Huron lost to Ilderton 3-0. Game 3 was played Saturday night against Twin Center which they played a hard and fast game winning 2-0.
