AMANDA MARSHALL
While working in Ottawa, Amanda met her
husband, who is originally from Goderich
and they moved together to London halfway
between Goderich and Hamilton (where
Amanda is from). During their time in London
they would visit Goderich twice a month and
they loved small town life so, as soon as they
were able, they moved to Huron County.
Amanda would commute to London every
day for work but one day she saw an ad in the paper for an Events
Coordinator at the South Huron Chamber of Commerce. She applied and
got the position.
The position was originally only a part-time internship, but Amanda was
excited as it would allow her to use her education in advertising, sales
and marketing which her previous position did not allow. As time went by
she was able to renegotiate her contract and now works full-time for the
Chamber. Her job entails coordinating events that the Chamber puts on
and doing much of the nitty-gritty work as everyone else is a volunteer.
What she likes most is that she gets to visit other towns, meet local busi-
ness owners and promote their products, but most importantly, she likes
actually getting to live in Huron and not just sleep here.
Amanda loves living in Huron because the people are very friendly, she
thinks there is something special about Huron County people that outsid-
ers can see but those in Huron often don't. Creating the opportunity for
people to have fun, spend their money locally and discover new products
is what motivates her. Amanda plans to stay in Huron County and support
the local economy by showing people that everything they want can be
found in Huron and they do not have to travel to London
or Stratford. "Here in Huron" is the name of the show that
she is planning for the spring to showcase local products
and encourage people to buy them. Amanda participated
in an internship funded by the HBDC.
