Pastor Elly
HENSALL Residents gathered
Thursday evening at a Memorial Service
to honour and share memories of their
fellow residents who have passed away
recently. Queensway pastoral care vol-
unteer Rev. Marybeth Wilson led the ser-
vice and Francis Kinsman served as vol-
unteer pianist. Following the Memorial
Service, refreshments courtesy of baking
group were served.
Registered massage therapist, Lori
Burt was in Monday throughout the
day to provide her soothing services to
several residents. With Lori's additional
time onsite many more residents are able
to feel the benefits of this therapy. Mon-
day bingos for the month of November
are provided by Bethel Reform women
who also lead a hymn sing following the
game.
Queensway Auxiliary / Family Coun-
cil met Tuesday morning to preview the
many upcoming events and offer their
assistance and support. For the fam-
ily council portion of the meeting Lois
Thiel R.N. and director of care, acting on
a request put forth at the October meet-
ing, gave a very interesting presentation
about the Alberta Classification System
that measures the level of care required
by residents, which then determines
funding. Members found the informa-
tion valuable and are looking forward
to further educational opportunities that
will increase their understanding of long
term care.
Pastor Elly Dow (formerly Elly Van
Bergen) led worship Tuesday morning
with an excellent attendance of residents
eager to renew acquaintance with her,
since she had served as our pastoral vol-
unteer for six years.
Dow returns for a visit
Shirley Hall, social worker visited Tues-
day providing support for residents and
family members. In the afternoon Green
Thumbs transplanted some Geraniums
indoors so they could be enjoyed and
nurtured through the winter months.
Lisa Stewart, music therapist led drum-
ming group Wednesday morning for
an engaged crowd happy to be part of
the beat and rhythm. Volunteer, Donna
Smale visited Wednesday afternoon to
organize the euchre partici-
pants.
Coffee and news drew
residents Thursday morning
for piping hot coffee and a
discussion of current events.
Following coffee and news,
the food committee met for
their monthly discussion, of-
fering affirmation and input
on food related issues with
Joan Bradley, director of
food services. Throughout
the week residents have en-
joyed lots of one on one time
in the evenings with student
activation assistants, Genelle
and Cassie visiting, playing
games and reading.
The tuck and library cart
was available Friday after-
noon for purchases and book
borrowing or returns and in
the evening Andy's Friends
entertained in the retirement
home lounge with volunteer
Edna Deitz assisting at the
program and serving re-
freshments.
