The Times Advocate, 2008-11-12, Page 1414 Times -Advocate Wednesday, November 12, 2008 Dashwood Spa Informative day The education committee at Zion Lutheran Church in Dashwood again host- ed a ladies spa day on Saturday.The theme for the event this year was connecting generations, with a workshop on new technology and a nostalgia lunch as well as a fashion show.Above, in back from left are models Sarah Kwajafa, Emily Bowers and CaraTrembulak. (photos/Pat Bolen) Pastor Elly HENSALL Residents gathered Thursday evening at a Memorial Service to honour and share memories of their fellow residents who have passed away recently. Queensway pastoral care vol- unteer Rev. Marybeth Wilson led the ser- vice and Francis Kinsman served as vol- unteer pianist. Following the Memorial Service, refreshments courtesy of baking group were served. Registered massage therapist, Lori Burt was in Monday throughout the day to provide her soothing services to several residents. With Lori's additional time onsite many more residents are able to feel the benefits of this therapy. Mon- day bingos for the month of November are provided by Bethel Reform women who also lead a hymn sing following the game. Queensway Auxiliary / Family Coun- cil met Tuesday morning to preview the many upcoming events and offer their assistance and support. For the fam- ily council portion of the meeting Lois Thiel R.N. and director of care, acting on a request put forth at the October meet- ing, gave a very interesting presentation about the Alberta Classification System that measures the level of care required by residents, which then determines funding. Members found the informa- tion valuable and are looking forward to further educational opportunities that will increase their understanding of long term care. Pastor Elly Dow (formerly Elly Van Bergen) led worship Tuesday morning with an excellent attendance of residents eager to renew acquaintance with her, since she had served as our pastoral vol- unteer for six years. Dow returns for a visit Shirley Hall, social worker visited Tues- day providing support for residents and family members. In the afternoon Green Thumbs transplanted some Geraniums indoors so they could be enjoyed and nurtured through the winter months. Lisa Stewart, music therapist led drum- ming group Wednesday morning for an engaged crowd happy to be part of the beat and rhythm. Volunteer, Donna Smale visited Wednesday afternoon to organize the euchre partici- pants. Coffee and news drew residents Thursday morning for piping hot coffee and a discussion of current events. Following coffee and news, the food committee met for their monthly discussion, of- fering affirmation and input on food related issues with Joan Bradley, director of food services. Throughout the week residents have en- joyed lots of one on one time in the evenings with student activation assistants, Genelle and Cassie visiting, playing games and reading. The tuck and library cart was available Friday after- noon for purchases and book borrowing or returns and in the evening Andy's Friends entertained in the retirement home lounge with volunteer Edna Deitz assisting at the program and serving re- freshments. Coming events Wed., Nov. 12 - 2 to 4 p.m. WI plan exciting GRAND BEND Ruth Gourley, Area Voting Delegate was a guest at the Huron South Women's In- stitute District Fall Board meeting. Ruth updated us on the upcoming events. The Tweedsmuir Work- shop is Aug. 4, 2009 at Shedden and the London Area Conven- tion is slated for Oct. 15, 2009. An Antique Fair at St. David's United Church in Woodstock is Feb. 16. It is an Evaluation Day from 10 to 4. President Lois Gill Chaired the Huron Rebekah EXETER - A delicious turkey dinner at Exeter United Church was en- joyed on Oct. 22 when the vice president of the Rebekah Assembly, Don- na Mallette made a visit. Guests were present from Brussels, St. Marys and events for 2009 meeting. Brief reports were given. The Huron South District Annual meeting will be held at Grand Bend on May 21, 2009. The theme is, "Let's Look After Mother Earth." The speaker's topic will be water. The Huron South WI picnic is July 7, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. in Riverview Park, Exeter. Stratford and Forest. On Nov. 5 Kate Monk from the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization spoke.
