President Charles Reid presided. Anna Keys and Bill Taylor gave their respective reports. Bernice Reid gave a reading on What is a Grandmother . Margaret Hayter brought some smiles with her reading too! The Christmas party will be on Tues., Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. at the complex with a dinner catered by the Varna UCW which they sure appreciate. The cost is $15 per person. If you wish to attend, this must be paid to Bill Taylor by Dec. 1. Entertainment will be supplied by Ken Boyce and the Jammers from God- erich. Crokinole in celebra- tion of 100 years for ZMC A Crokinole Tournament was held in Zurich at the Mennonite Church in recognition of their Centennial Celebration on Sat., Nov. 8. Hosts of this well run tourna- ment were Jim Ramer and daugh- ter Jill. This was a doubles tournament and winners of the Rec Division were Marlin Lichti of New Ham- burg and Lee Porath of Kitchen- er. Second place was Pearl Ann Martin of Bayfield and her sister Mary Lou Erb from Zurich. Third place went to members of the Var- na Club Ralph Stephenson and Charles Reid. In the Competitive Division brothers Raymond and Jason Beierling took first place, Abe Leitch (Varna Crokinole Club member) and Murray Mathison from Stratford took second. Joe Fulop played the first two games before Abe got there . It was good to see Joe ! The third place win- ners were Kent Robinson of Lon- don and his dad Ken Robinson of North Bay. There was also a cues division and many players were from Tav- istock and Stratford area. Congrats to all players and thanks again to Jim and Jill for a fun -filled day of crokinole. Church service Remembrance Sunday in Varna Church with worship leader Co- lin Snyder. There was a special reading In Flanders Fields. The time for children and youth was on the Lord s Prayer. Following the ser- vice the congregation gathered at the Cenotaph for a short service with the laying of the wreaths. Our Veterans Wreath was laid by Ralph Elliott, member of the Royal Canadian Legion Clinton, Charles Reid laid the Wreath for the Orange Lodge, Pete Walden for the Municipality of Bluewater and Dave Roy for the Province of Ontario. Paul Dearlove played the Last Post on his bugle. Sun., Nov. 16 church will be in Goshen as well as on Nov. 23 and 30. Please keep in mind when shop- ping and help make this Christ- mas joyful for the children of Hu- ron County. A Gift of Music Concert featur- ing Mary Smith and Phil Main is on Sat., Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. at the North Street United Church in Goderich. Tickets are $25 each with proceeds going towards the CT Scanner for Huron Diagnostic Imaging Campaign. The Blyth Festival Singers Y g Christmas Concert is Sun., Dec. 7 at 2:30P .m. also at the North Street United Church in Goderich. Special guest is Kincardine Brass Band under the direc- tion of Nancy Ross. A great family concert. Tickets are adults $12 and children 12 and under $6. Varna -Goshen Covenanting Service The Covenanting Service of the Varna -Goshen Pastoral Charge and Colin Snyder was held Sun., Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. Joe Laurie, Presbytery Rep gave the welcome and intro- duction of the Chair of Presbytery Flo Cartwright and followed by lighting the Christ candle. Flo gave the opening prayer and words of welcome. Rev. Peter Kingsbury read the Scripture Lessons as well as the reflection with kinds words about Colin Snyder. This followed with the choir favouring everyone with an anthem. The Covenanting Action then took place with the Presentation of the Symbols of Faith. Gerald Hay- ter presenting the Bible to Colin, Willi Laurie the hymn book and Geraldine Eckel the rope. Colin then followed with prayer. Flo Cartwright made to action to dissolve the joint search committee. She followed with the bene- diction. Thanks to everyone who attended this service. Special thanks to Flo Cartwright, Rev. Peter Kingsbury, Shirley Hill the organist and the Varna Goshen Choir for their contributions.
