In Exeter last week, Fischer said she wants to involve the community by expanding the Exeter Community Choir and starting a children s choir for ages 8-14. We want everybody and everyone, said Fischer. The desire to sing is passing the audition. The first practice of the children s choir is Nov. 20 at Trivitt at 3:30 p.m. and Fischer is hoping to involve it in the Trivitt Christmas service Dec. 21. The first joint Trivitt Choir and Exeter Community Choir rehearsal will be Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. There will be a social time first, then dive in, said Fischer. Fischer brings a wealth of experience to Exeter, which started at the age of four when she took piano lessons and continued with a degree from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto in Associateship in Organ Performance. The first service she will play at will be Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. Fischer is a professional musician, conductor, di- rector, organist, pianist and teacher and has worked in communities such as London, Burlington and St Catharines in various musical positions with several dominations including Presbyterian, United, Episco- pal and Anglican. Among the high points of her career have been lead- ing a choir to England in 2003 to perform at several cathedrals, which she did again in 2006, when they performed at York Minster in York as well as Coventry and Lincoln. Fischer said the job in Exeter came about when a friend e-mailed her an ad for the position, saying, They re looking for you. While at first she was hesi- tant to take the job due to the distance, her colleague told her, they want you, and after a meeting Fischer felt it was meant to be. Fischer said the organ at Trivitt is unique and his- torical and is something she wants to maintain and enjoy. She is also looking forward to using the grand piano at the church as much as she can. Every choir I have conducted is all amateur, said Fischer. We rehearse so that everyone is comfortable with the music. When we perform it is the highest level possible because of hard work. Fischer said the choir singers won t be charged any- thing. We want them to come and play. On Nov. 16 there will be a potluck at the church to meet Fischer. Bring a dish and sign up, she says. (Photo/Ben Forrest) Bargain Shop opens Friday EXETER The grand opening of The Bargain Shop (TBS) in Exeter, located on 193 Main Street South, is 9 a.m. on Friday. The total number of TBS stores is 96 locations, making TBS one of the largest retailers in the prov- ince. TBS invites everyone to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m., where they can meet and greet the staff and management of the store, as well as the company executives and local dignitaries. In spite of the difficult economy, or perhaps because of it, this is the best of times for extreme -value retailers like TBS, according to president and chief executive of- ficer Michael Roellinghoff. He added, A tougher economy means consumers are more fo- cused on quality and price than ever, and those two elements of the value equation are at the very core of what we're all about. The Bargain Shop recently com- pleted the acquisition of a number of former SAAN leases, as well as buying their intellectual property, including the SAAN name, but they will operate all of the stores under the TBS banner. TBS specializes in carrying brand-name everyday items 365 days a year, supplemented with seasonal and so-called opportu- nity buys , which are manufac- turer's over -runs and close-outs. We're not big on the old high -low price game, accord- ing to chief operating officer Jim Caldwell, preferring instead, to offer guaranteed low prices every day of the year.
