Medal of Honour – Comrade Ron Helm (left) was the recipi-
ent of the Volunteer Medal of Appreciation on Oct. 23 at a cere-
mony at the Exeter Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Helm
received the medal for outstanding work and commitment to the
cadet corps as a liaison officer. He is the 46th recipient of the

St.Anne's pledge
CLINTON — Students at St. Anne's Catholic Secondary School
took a pledge Oct. 17 in a global day of action, said the Clinton
News -Record.
The students pledged to take part in a global effort to eradicate
poverty by 2015 as part of the Millennium declaration which was
adopted by 191 countries in 2000.
Among the goals of the project are primary education, gender
equality, improved maternal health and reducing child mortality.
Contract deadline
GODERICH— A five-year, $1.65 million OPP contract renewal
is almost signed by the town of Goderich, said the Goderich
Signal -Star.
The OPP contract passed its first two readings at an Oct. 20
council meeting.
The third reading is being saved for a special Nov. 13 council
meeting in order to give the council time to consult with other
municipalities in regards to court security costs.
The deadline for signing the contract is Dec. 1, as the OPP will
adopt a more expensive contract provincially Dec. 31.
Art show —A reception
for an art show at the
Lucan Library featuring
drawings and paintings
from Sacred Heart School
students in Parkhill was held Monday night.The
exhibit, hosted by the Friends of the Lucan
Library, features art from Junior Kindergarten to
Grade 8 students. Pictured from left are Alandra
Coutts,Thomas Keyogh, Mikaela Willemse,
Cameron and Jocelyn Amos and Lucan artist Jo
Percival, who taught the "artstarts" program to
the students.The Sacred Heart artwork will be
on display at the Lucan Library until mid-January.
