Crediton W.I. is reminded to
go green and report back
CREDITON — The Crediton
Women's Institute held their Oct.
15 meeting in Crediton Hall.
President Anne Cottel chaired
the business meeting. Anne
read "Thanksgiving Delights."
The roll call "Did you exercise
your democratic right to vote?"
was answered by 11 members.
Alma Davey gave the highlights
of the rally in Belgrave and
Cheryl MacLeod reported on the
Ad -Hoc meeting.
The counting of the WI articles
in the hall were left for a later
date in December. Christmas
meeting was discussed and left
for the program committee to
decide on the place.
Board meeting is Nov. 4 at 1
p.m. at the Exeter Villa Room.
Members were asked to think
of what they are doing in their
homes to support the `[Going

"Three Stupid Men" and "Dear
Revenue Canada." The guest
speaker was Dave MacLeod. His
topic was "First Past the Post vs
Mixed Member Proportional."
He told us of the vote held in
his civic class in highschool. He
also explained why we use the
current system and outlined
other systems. We learned
about "Orphan Voters" and of
the 17 political parties in
Canada. We had a quiz on nam-
ing the parties.
Dave gave us all something to
think about for the future and
made us more aware of how our
political system works. A deli-
cious lunch was served by
Cheryl MacLeod and Chris
Vanhie.
POLICE BRIEF
Police apprehend fleeing suspect
SOUTH HURON — Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 17, a Huron OPP
officer observed a white Crown Victoria in Exeter containing at
least six occupants. The officer began to turn around in order to ini-
tiate a traffic stop when the vehicle rapidly sped away. The officer
activated the cruiser lights and siren and attempted to get the sus-
pect vehicle to stop. The driver of the Crown Victoria led the officer
along numerous streets in Exeter while failing to stop for stop signs
at most intersections. The vehicle then left Exeter and traveled west
to Ausable Line where it was stopped at a dead end and the driver
fled the scene. The five other occupants were unharmed during the
incident. The Canine Unit was contacted and the driver was tracked
and later apprehended. Officers also seized a quantity of alcohol
and stolen property from inside the suspect vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 17 -year-old South Huron male is
now facing one count of Flight from Police, one count of Dangerous
Driving, one count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, one
count of Person Under 19 years Consume Liquor and one count of
Class G2 Licence Holder Driver with BAC Above Zero. The male is
scheduled to appear in Goderich Youth Court on Dec. 4.
