GODERICH I have a few fingernails left this
time, said Huron -Bruce Conservative candidate Ben
Lobb in his acceptance speech to supporters Oct. 14
after he was declared the winner of the riding in the
federal election with 22,202 votes. Liberal Greg Mc-
Clinchey finished second with 16,346 votes.
Lobb compared the results of his win to the 2006
election that went down to the wire before Liberal
candidate Paul Steckle won the riding over Lobb by
971 votes.
Lobb led all the way though this time with a 250
vote lead over McClinchey in the first announced re-
turns after the polls closed at 9:30 p.m.
Lobb s lead grew as more polls were announced,
growing to almost 4,000 votes over McClinchey be-
fore Lobb made his acceptance speech at 11:30 p.m.
NDP candidate Tony McQuail came in third with
7,426 votes while Glen Smith of the Green Party had
2,617 votes, Dave Joslin of the Christian Heritage
Party had 747 votes and Independant Dennis Valenta
received 242 votes.
Voter turnout in Huron -Bruce was 64.7 per cent.
Lobb said, Huron -Bruce is a huge riding. We put
in a lot of miles in the car...knocking on doors was the
key. It made the connection.
Lobb said when he decided to seek the Conserva-
tive nomination for the riding in May 2005, running
for the Conservatives in Huron -Bruce was to finish
second.
Lobb said he had an idea of what the riding could be
and wanted to reconnect Huron -Bruce to Ottawa.
We had a vision to reconnect and run a positive
campaign of what the Conservative government un-
der Stephen Harper would do.
While others cut ribbons and went to gala dinners,
we worked, said Lobb.
There are show horses and work horses. The peo-
ple elected a work horse....those who know me, know
I 11 work hard for as long as it lasts and make a differ-
ence in the community.

SOUTH HURON Andex Metal Products of Exeter is planning an
expansion as the company prepares for its 40th anniversary next spring.
General manager Bryan Law appeared at South Huron council s meet-
ing Monday night requesting two exemptions from a site plan agreement
between the company and the municipality. In the end, the municipality
agreed, although a compromise was reached.
Andex plans to expand its operation at 97 Thames Rd. E. in two phases
the first phase will see a 3,160 square metre addition to the west wing
of the building and the second will involve an expansion of 1,860 square
metres to the south. A 40 X 80 foot building will be removed to allow for
phase one to occur.
Removed at Law s request were clauses that required all garbage
receptacles shall be visually screened within one year from the date of
registration of this agreement and a board fence or a planting strip of
trees shall be planted along the southerly property line to provide visual
screening of the storage containers until such time that Phase 2 has been
implemented.
