EXETER — Despite a
hard fought loss
Saturday night in their
season opener, the
Exeter Mohawks are
optimistic about their
second season in Exeter,
said team manager
Charlie Rau.
The league has seen
several changes this sea-
son, said Rau with the
loss of Wingham and the
addition of several
teams including Petrolia
and Tillsonburg.
Rau said the new teams
will make the league
more competitive and the
new shorter schedule of
20 games will save on
travel costs as well as
making the season easier
on players.
On the roster this sea-
son will be Jarrett
Jeffrey, Jason Heywood,
Jeff MacLean, Andrew
Mauer, Dean Hammond,
Andrew Carey, JR
Davies, Mark Bell, Tyson
Clinton, Shaun Clinton,
Greg Schepers, Jeff
Smale, Jeremy
Vanbergen, Paul
Rutledge, David Geoffrey,
Chris Kennedy, Justin
Hayter, Kevin Corbett
and Cam Becker.
The Mohawks will
again be coached by
Mark Livermore who will
be assisted by Steve
Coward.
The president of the
team is Jason Geoffrey
and Rau said the team is
always looking for more
executive members.
Rau said the team is
starting to settle into
Exeter and sponsorships
have been going well.

Exeter Fury needs players

EXETER — Despite a tough
season and uncertainty about
the future of the Exeter Fury,
coach Jason McFalls is hope-
ful the team will be back on
the field next year if more
players can be found.
"I don't want to see it fold,"
said McFalls, who added the
team was down to 12 players
by the end of this season
which wasn't enough to be
competitive.
While 18 players would be
enough, McFalls said he
would love to have 20 players
come out. He is looking for
players between the ages of
16 and 30.
McFalls said the team was
looking good during the exhi-
bition but with work commit-
ments and injuries the num-
ber of players dropped as the
season went on.
Most of the Fury's road
games are in London with the
farthest trip the team makes
down to Delhi.
The team is looking for play-
ers at every position, especial-
ly a goalie, said McFalls, who
added that a decision will
have to be made by the end of
November or early December.
McFalls said he is still hope-
ful, since 10 years ago the
team faced the same situation
and managed to keep playing.
"We survived then, we might
again," he said.
To contact McFalls, call 235-
1173 or e-mail him at fury-
godfather@cablety. on. ca
without them," he said.
The Mohawk's website
will also be going up in a
couple of weeks, said
Rau, at
www.mohawk.com
On Saturday night, the
Mohawks got two power
play goals from
VanBergen and singles
from Geoffrey and
MacLean, but came up
just short in the 5-4 loss.
The Mohawks visit
Tavistock Saturday at
8:30 p.m.
