Zion West extends Thanksgiving invitation
By Mary Peterson
CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT
VARNA — On Sun., Oct. 5, Bob Tindall and Clare
Wright welcomed everyone to worship at
Centralia United Church. Mr. Peter Gummow led
worship. Bob Tindall lit the Christ
candle.
Everyone joined in the call to wor-
ship and the opening hymn, "Love
Divine, All Loves Excelling". There were several
prayers, and then Rob Essery read the Minute for
Mission. Marjorie Johns accompanied the choir
for the anthem, "Love Lifted Me".
Brent Caslick read the Scripture from Matthew
21:33-46. Peter read the Scripture from Isaiah
5:1-7. Peter led the responsive reading from
Psalm 80.
During the children's story, Peter showed a light
bulb. He explained about the first lightbulb and
how it was accidentally broken by a boy taking it
to be tested. He told how Thomas Edison forgave
the boy, and described the importance of forgive-
ness. The children's hymn was "I Love
to Tell the Story".
Peter's sermon, "Not Just Another
Love Story", focused on the scripture
readings and the description of God's love and
forgiveness in the parable.
Everyone sang the hymn "In Suffering Love".
Marjorie Johns explained that the words for this
hymn were written in 1983 by a relative of hers,
Rob Johns, when he was critically ill and close to
death. She encouraged everyone to look closely at
CENRALIA NEWS

Raising cash — Last Friday Queensway Retirement Home in Hensall was full of pink. Residents, staff, family and
community members were excited to raise over $500 for breast cancer research. Retirement Home residents made
paper hats, wore their pink clothes and bought baked goodies donated by family members, staff, residents and com-
munity members. Pictured in front from left are Evelyn Randal, Beth Knox and Hazel Beaver, while in back from left
are Adelaide Young, Ina Russell, Gladys Bierling, Maxine Martin and Retirement Home director Julie
Grimminck. Staffers Deb Collins and Dianne McKenzie organized the event. (photo/submitted)

Want A Say In My Own Insurance Protection
Ontario's mutual insurance companies were started by early settlers who believed in working together
to protect themselves against the devastation of fire. Today that principle of neighbour
helping neighbour in times of crisis is still our driving force.
Now we're 45 mutual companies strong, owned and directed
by our policyholders. Still providing the best in protection.
