Blood clinic today at Rec Centre
EXETER — A blood donor
clinic will be held in Exeter
today (Oct. 8) at South Huron
Rec Centre from 12:30 to 8:30
p.m.
At a time of year when many
of us are giving thanks for
things like our good health,
some people are not so fortu-
nate. During the month of
October, patients in hospitals all
across Canada will require
blood donations from over
93,000 donors and our current
forecast indicates that we will
not meet this target without
more help. In our region, that
means we need 23,000 donors
to attend our clinics this month.
If you haven't given blood in
the past two months, please call
1-888-2 DONATE today and
book your next appointment to
save lives. If you have an
upcoming appointment to
donate, thank
you.
'Food for Fines' at county libraries
HURON — All 12 branch-
es of the Huron County
Library will be participat-
ing in the 'Food for Fines'
program during Ontario
Public Library week this
year.
The branches will also
offer free replacement
library cards throughout
the week.
From Oct. 19 - 25, the
libraries will accept non-
perishable food items in
place of cash for overdue
library fines. This project is
offered through the Huron
County Library in partner-
ship with the Huron
County Health
Unit and local
food banks.
Food for Fines
is a popular ini-
tiative with
Ontario public
libraries. In
2007, 640 peo-
ple donated
998 items
through public
libraries in
Huron County.
The program
allows library
users the
opportunity to
clear their
record, return
overdue mate-
rials and sup-
port the food
banks serving
their communi-
ties. Fines for items will be
waived on a one to one
ratio; it's simply one item
of food for each book over-
due.
The card replacement
program will allow users
to replace their library
cards free of charge
throughout the week.
According to the Ontario
Ministry of Culture, "a
strong library system is the
cornerstone of a strong
community. Ontario
Public Library Week rec-
ognizes the important con-
tribution Ontario's public
libraries make to educa-
tion, literacy and life-long
learning in Ontario com-
munities. With more than
1,100 service points
throughout Ontario, public
libraries' patrons make
over 66 million visits to
local libraries across
Ontario annually. And
now virtually every library
branch in the province
also provides access to
electronic information
through the Internet."
Ontario Public Library
week is an annual fall
event, raising awareness
of public libraries through-
out the province

Lobb
Conservative
This election is about the kind of Canada we
want. This Conservative minority government
has lowered taxes - the GST, personal income
taxes, and small business taxes. We have invested
in the safety of Canadians - at our borders, with
protections for children, and tough law -and -order
legislation. We have introduced a realistic plan to
cut greenhouse gases and protect our environment.
We have put dollars into reducing health care wait
times and training of more medical practitioners. If
you believe in a Canada that is economically strong, that makes safety a priority,
and that invests wisely in health, the environment and families, please vote on
October 14. Please vote Conservative.
A stronger, safer, better Canada.
