(photos/submitted) Panthers field hockey EXETER — The South Huron District High School field hockey team travelled to Goderich on Friday. South Huron started the day a bit slow versus a tough Forest Heights team (from Waterloo) falling behind 3-0. However, the team woke up in the second half, clawing their way back with two goals on strong shots from Staci Miller. With time, the girls could have stolen the two points but with no such luck, the game ended with a 3- 2 loss for the Panthers. Goalie Michaela Ondrejicka played excellent in net keeping South Huron in the game stopping three clear breakways. The Panthers faced the 'second' team from Goderich in their second game. Goderich scored first which fired up the Panthers who soon tied the game 1-1 on a goal from Emily Lacasse who deflected the shot in from Miller. The Panthers continued their scoring ways with Lacasse and Miller combining to score another goal. Miller, Karly Bryson and Anna Bilcke were instrumental in getting Lacasse the goal on a penalty cor- ner increasing their lead to two. Miller finished the game with a goal resulting in a 4-1 final score and a win for South Huron. After a quick lunch break and rest, South Huron faced a weaker North Middlesex team. South Huron took the lead early on goals from Sandra Gregus and Michelle Hall who scored on a penalty corner from Bryson and Gregus. North Middlesex fouled near the goal line awarding South Huron a penalty stroke. A quick shot from Gregus increased the Panthers' lead to three. Lacasse and Miller with two rounded out the scoring resulting in a 6-0 thrashing of North Middlesex. Rookie goalie Taryn Anstett recorded the shutout for the Panthers. The fourth and fmal game of the day came against one of South Huron's league rivals from Listowel. The play of the Panthers had been getting stronger each game and this game was no exception. The girls took an early lead on a pass from Gregus to Miller who put the ball in the back of the net. Miller, continuing to demonstrate her scoring touch, notched two more goals, one on a penalty corner from Gregus. Again rookie goalkeeper Anstett recorded the shutout in a 3-0 win over Listowel. The Panthers travelled back to Goderich on Monday to play league games versus St. Marys and Goderich. They are at home Sept. 29 at 2 and 4:30 p.m. and support from fans is welcome.
