can improve your fam-
ily's Web security in
four easy steps:
1..Decide where
your child can and
can't go on the
Internet.
2. Increase your
security and privacy
settings.
3. Keep track of
where your child goes
online until their skills,
understanding and
management skills
develop.
4. Remind your
child that there are
strangers online and
they need to be aware,
just as you do when
teaching them personal
safety in their neigh-
bourhood.
Parents should set the stage for how the
internet should be used and how much
time is spent on line. Educate yourself on
how to program settings and security levels
that reflect the child's development age
and abilities. Beware of sites that ask to
collect personal data of any kind. Teach
your child from an early age that the
Internet is a tool that needs to be respected
and used as a tool, for sharing of informa-
tion, communication, research and limited
entertainment. Encourage time limits of
online use.
Security settings should reflect the age
and development stage of the child. He
re are some guidelines to follow:
• Up to age 10: High security settings.
With these settings you can block websites,
inappropriate content and limit access to
content and activities. Supervise and mon-
itor children while they are online to ensure
their safety.
• Ages 11 to 14: Medium security set-
tings. Children may have the abilities to
judge appropriate behaviour online and
acquire skills that help them determine
appropriate and inappropriate content to
access.

Cranberry Basmati Rice
I HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH THIS RICE DISH. I DISCOVERED
IT WHILE ON OUR HOLIDAYS WHEN I WAS HAVE AN
EXPERIMENTING MOMENT! WE LOVED THE RICE AND
FORTUNATELY THERE WAS TOO MUCH THE FIRST DAY SO WE
STORED IT IN THE FRIDGE AND ATE IT COLD THE NEXT DAY.
IT WAS AN AMAZING COLD RICE SALAD AS WELL. I HAVE
SINCE SERVED IT BOTH WAYS AND IT IS A DEFINITE MUST TRY
IF YOU ENJOY A VARIETY OF RICE DISHES!
1 tsp canola oil
1 garlic clove minced
I chopped onion
I -1/2. cups chicken bouillon
1 cup basmati rice (I used a 5 wild basmati rice blend)
1/2 cup orange juice
1 tsp lemon and orange zest
Juice of 1 lemon
1/3 cup dried cranberries
1/4 tsp sage
1/4 tsp black pepper
Saute the garlic and onion in oil till limp. Stir in the rest of the
ingredients and bring to a boil. Stir as needed. Then simmer
the rice covered for at least 45 minutes. Remove from heat
and let stand for 10 minutes. Serve and enjoy and don't
forget to save the leftovers for a cold lunch the next day!!
