Increase your security and privacy settings. 3. Keep track of where your child goes online until their skills, understanding and management skills develop. 4. Remind your child that there are strangers online and they need to be aware, just as you do when teaching them personal safety in their neigh- bourhood. Parents should set the stage for how the internet should be used and how much time is spent on line. Educate yourself on how to program settings and security levels that reflect the child's development age and abilities. Beware of sites that ask to collect personal data of any kind. Teach your child from an early age that the Internet is a tool that needs to be respected and used as a tool, for sharing of informa- tion, communication, research and limited entertainment. Encourage time limits of online use. Security settings should reflect the age and development stage of the child. He re are some guidelines to follow: • Up to age 10: High security settings. With these settings you can block websites, inappropriate content and limit access to content and activities. Supervise and mon- itor children while they are online to ensure their safety. • Ages 11 to 14: Medium security set- tings. Children may have the abilities to judge appropriate behaviour online and acquire skills that help them determine appropriate and inappropriate content to access. cooking with memories sr DEBBY WAGLER Cranberry Basmati Rice I HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH THIS RICE DISH.
