(photo/Pat Bolen) In remembrance — Haskett Funeral Homes and the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation held their annual Dedication Service at the Morrison Dam on Sunday after- noon. Approximately 400 peo- ple attended the service officiat- ed by Rev. Susan Moore to remember loved ones lost in the past year. Over the next year, 146 trees will be planted throughout the conservation area. Sigma Phi Sorority EXETER - The theme for the opening meeting for 2008-2009 was "If teacups could talk." Co - hostesses were Ada Dinney, Marian Rider, Marie Astle and Barb Fleet. On Aug. 25 we met at the home of Ada Dinney who had decorated her home in Victorian decor. Roll call was answered by sharing a story about a favorite tea cup and saucer each member had brought. Everyone wore a hat and gloves. Elsie Hermann poured perfectly steeped tea from a silver tea ser- vice. Fancy sandwiches and sweet treats were enjoyed. On Sept. 5 we met at the home of Mary Jane Taylor. Co -host- esses Mary Jane and Jay Skillender asked each member to share information about a trip they have enjoyed or plan to enjoy. Many interesting accounts followed. Verla Russell was the lucky winner of a towel and dish cloth made and donated by Elsie Witteveen. A social time and refreshments followed as mem- bers mingled and enjoyed Mary Jones beautiful gardens. On Sept. 18, 19 members and one guest took part in a mystery tour organized by co -hostesses Rosemary Schaeffer and Elsie Hermann. Stops along the route included Huron Ridge Nursery, Porter HIll Productions, Zehr's Farm Market and Ducharme's Apple Orchard. Many purchases of flowers, fruit decor items, pastries and preserves were made. A social time followed at Rosemary's cottage on Lake Huron. Next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 16. Colin's Sermon based on "Who Do You Say I Am? Following the service there was an important congrega- tional meeting. Goshen UCW meet- ing is Thurs., Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Goshen Church. A potato peeling bee will take place Fri., Sept. 26 at the Complex at 7 p.m. There are two wedding celebra- tions coming up on Sat., Sept. 27. Meggin Bartliff Reid and Julie Webster are both getting married on Sat., Sept. 27!! Best wish- es and good weather is wished to them. There will be an official board meet- ing Tues., Sept. 30 at Varna at 8 p.m. Varna UCW meet Thurs., Oct. 2, at the church at 7:30 p.m. Mark your calen- dar!! Walk for the Cure.
