14 Times–Advocate Wednesday, September 24, 2008 Cleaning up the beach Helping the environment — Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron and Community Living South Huron participated in the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup last Thursday, picking up garbage at Grand Bend's main beach. Big Brothers casework co-ordinator Amy Schwartzentruber said participants picked up about three quarters of a garbage bag worth of garbage and half a bag of recyclables. Items found included lots of cigarette butts, lids, plastic forks, a few beer bottles and fireworks. (photos/Scott Nixon) Centralia UC will celebrate anniversary on Oct. 19 By Mary Peterson CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT CENTRALIA- On Sun., Sept. 14, Mr. Peter Gummow welcomed everyone to worship at Centralia United Church. Jason Essery lit the Christ candle. Everyone joined in the call to worship and the opening hymn, Great Is Thy Faithfulness. There were several prayers, and then Marjorie Johns played the organ for the hymn What a Friend We Have in Jesus. Brent Caslick read the Scripture from Genesis 50:15-21 and Matthew 18:21-35. Peter led the responsive reading from Psalm 103. During the children's story, Peter showed several pencils that he has used. They are all similar - the erasers are all well worn. Peter explained that he makes mistakes sometimes, and the eraser helps remove the mistakes. Forgiveness is important when mistakes are made. The children's hymn was Tell Me the Stories of Jesus. Peter's sermon, "Can You Forgive?", addressed the impor- tance of forgiveness in our lives. It is significant in being a Christian. Everyone sang the hymn There's a Wideness in God's Mercy. Jason Essery and Mary Peterson read the "Minute for Mission" about donations assisting people in Nicaragua. Marion and Don McCurdy assisted with the offering. Marjorie Johns accompanied the choir on the piano for their anthem, I Love to Tell the Story. Worship closed with the hymn Walk With Me. Mark your calendars Now that September has arrived, there are some upcoming dates to mark on your calendar. The official board will meet Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Zion West United Church. On Sun., Oct. 5, everyone is invited to the Chicken Barbecue at Kirkton- Woodham Community Centre from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Kirkton United Church members will be busy serving dinner that day. For tickets, contact Pam Benoit (229-6931) or Keith Stephens (229-6410). Centralia United Church will celebrate its anniversary on Sun., Oct. 19. Centralia and Zion United Churches will host a turkey supper at the South Huron Rec Centre on Sun., Nov. 16. Many people from Centralia and the area attended the RCMP Musical Ride at the South Huron Rec Centre, part of the Canadians in Uniform day. The weather was beautiful, and the horses and riders were wonderful! Congratulations to the many people involved in hosting this very successful event! Hensall water HENSALL — In response to requests at a Sept. 10 information meeting, Hensall ratepayers will have another option on how they want to pay for their share of the Hensall pipeline. As reported in last week's Times - Advocate, at its Sept. 15 meeting council discussed the information received at the previous meeting. A motion was passed at the coun- cil meeting which allows a partial pre -payment of a minimum $1,000 with additional increments of $500 allowed. The original option of a single lump -sum payment of approxi- mately $8,840.00 is still in effect.
