The Times Advocate, 2008-09-24, Page 4Wednesday, September 24, 2008 Times–Advocate 3 ABCA needs study EXETER — A needs assessment study on the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority Administration Centre will be done after a report from general manager Tom Prout. The report was delivered by Prout at the ABCA board of directors meeting Sept. 18 in response to crowded office conditions at the centre. Prout said in the past couple of years several conservation authorities have looked at office expansions or completely new offices. The report said at its May 2008 meeting the property committee discussed the crowded office conditions which was followed by a rec- ommendation at the Aug. 21 meeting that a needs assessment be carried out. The motion was then passed. BWRH moving ahead By Pat Bolen TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF ZURICH — Blue Water Rest Home (BWRH) administrator Martha Craig said a decision last week by the Municipality of Bluewater to defer a grant request won't have an impact in the short term on upgrades to the facility. At its meeting last week, council voted to defer a request from the rest home for $333,000 towards the cost of renovations until municipal budget deliber- ations in 2009. Huron County council has also put off making a decision on a request for $1.2 million until the municipality had made its decision. Craig said BWRH will move ahead with the project and is still hopeful it will be approved. She added that the money will be needed before the end of the project but understands it is a larger than usual sized amount than the municipality asked for and that the request was made with many of Bluewater's bud- get decisions already made for the year. Correction The Times -Advocate inadvertently used an incorrect version of William Bauer's letter concerning Hensall water rates last week which con- tained a couple of errors. The third paragraph should have read, "The bal- ance ($3,800,000) would be paid for by about 430 Hensall ratepayers through one single payment by each of $8,840 before Dec. 31, 2008, or annual pay- ments of $720 for the next 20 years." The tenth paragraph should have read,"Our lump -sum obligations would increase from $8,840 to $24,372, and the annual alternative would increase from $720 to more than $2,000. The T -A apol- ogizes for the mix-up.
