Pilgrimage to Holy Land planned for this Spring

upcoming Bible Lands Tour hosted by new church
members Carol and James Brisbin. (photo/Scott Nixon)
EXETER — Carol and James Brisbin are new to
Exeter but they are not new to travel. Individually and
together, they have traveled extensively in Canada, the
United States, the Caribbean, Europe, New Zealand and
Australia.
Both of these retired high school teachers have made
pilgrimages to the Holy Land in the past.
Early next spring, it will be their pleasure to host a
tour to the Bible Lands of the Eastern Mediterranean.
March 16, 2009 will see a group of pilgrims depart for
Cairo, Egypt, where they will have an opportunity to
visit the Giza Pyramids, ancient tombs and the antiqui-
ties of the Egyptian Museum among other highlights of
this historic city on the Nile.
Their journey will then take them across the Sinai
Peninsula to the Monastery of St. Catherine at the foot
E
of the mountain where Moses received the Ten
Commandments. Some of the group will even venture to
climb (or take a camel ride) to the top of Mt. Sinai to see
a beautiful desert sunrise.
The next stop on the tour will provide some resort
time on the Red Sea before heading inland through the
Kingdom of Jordan to the ancient
stone city of Petra — once an
important crossroad of caravan
trade between Europe, Asia and
Africa. There will even be time to
explore the medieval crusader
castle at Kerak.
Travel continues as the tour
crosses the Jordan River into
modern Israel. Here the group will
spend more than a week explor-
ing the sites associated with the
life of Jesus. Several days will be
spent in the Sea of Galilee area
before heading up to Jerusalem
for the final part of the tour.
Each day will be filled with excit-
ing discoveries, many ancient and
a few modern. Highlights in Israel
will include visits to Nazareth,
Bethlehem, Acre, Caesarea,
Megiddo, The Dead Sea and of
course the many historical and
religious sites of Jerusalem itself
— some dating back more than
5,000 years.
After 19 days of opportunities to
learn, to have fun, and to explore
their faith with their new friends,
the group will board their great
silver bird for the return journey
home where they will have end-
less memories and experiences to
relate to family and friends for
years to come.
The inclusive tour is endorsed by
Exeter United Church.
If you would like to find out
more about this opportunity, con-

information meeting about this tour at Exeter United
Church Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. where you can also learn
more. — article submitted
