Two wins for Panthers
EXETER - The South Huron
District High School field hockey
Panthers have started their season
and were successful in their first two
league games held at South Huron
Sept. 10.
In the first game, they played
Mitchell and dominated from start to
finish.
At 11 minutes, Emily Lacasse
scored after Sandra Gregus complet-
ed a great run.
Two minutes later, Lacasse added
to her total with an opportunistic goal
from good play by Staci Miller and
Karly Bryson.
At the 20 minute mark, Miller
scored her first of the season from a
Melissa Cronyn free hit.
Miller added her second just before
the break on a pass from Bryson.
The score at half time was 4-0. The
Panthers added a fifth as Miller
scored her hat -trick midway into the
half where she took the penalty cor-
ner to Bryson who returned the ball
to Miller who poked it into the net.
The final score was 5-0. Michaela
Ondrejicka and Taryn Anstett record-
ed the shutout.
In the second game, the Panthers
hosted St. Anne's from Clinton and
took the game to the opposition.
Miller opened the scoring after 16
minutes, slotting home the pass from
Gregus.
Two minutes later, Lacasse made it
two, but a few minutes later, a mis-
communication in the Panther
defense allowed St. Anne's to score.
The score at the half was 2-1 for the
Panthers.
Only three minutes into the second
half, Miller again scored following
good work by Lacasse and Cronyn.
Miller had her second hat -trick of the
day as she scored with only ten min-
utes left to play.
The final score was 4-1 for South
Huron.
The team travelled to St. John's
Kilmarnock in Waterloo for the annu-
al Waterloo field hockey club tourna-
ment and played four games, with a
record of 2-1-1.
In the first game, they played
Oakville Trafalgar and defeated them
3-0 on goals by Staci Miller with yet
another hat -trick. Ondrejicka record-
ed the shutout.
In game two, the Panthers defeated
St. Ignatius of Loyola 5-0, with Miller
scoring two and Cronyn one while
two rookies, Stephanie Muller and
Tess Atthill, recorded their first field
hockey goals.
In the third game against the host
team, the girls played well for the first
quarter of the game, but then relin-
quished a goal and then lost all confi-
dence as SJK went on to easily win 5-
0.
In the final game, the girls still con-
tinued to struggle and finished with a
0-0 tie against Galt.
The Panthers play in the Goderich
tournament on Friday and then
return to Goderich on Sept. 22 to
resume league play with a game
against St. Marys at 3:15 p.m. and
Goderich at 4:30 p.m.
