9 Times -Advocate Wednesday, September 17, 2008 Anniversary and baptism service Oct. 5 Auxiliary meeting By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA - The Stan Lee Club met on Sept. 4 for the beginning of the fall season. A bountiful potluck supper was enjoyed. Following the supper the "Bag Ladies" from Goderich entertained. They prepared costumes of different themes for themselves. Each wore a hat designed by themselves and made from a large brown paper bag. There was Miss Sunflower, Miss Canada, Miss Nurse etc. They sang many well known songs. The business part of the meeting was held after the entertainment. Charles Reid reported on the U.S.C.O. Convention that he and wife Bernice attended in Burlington in August. Three hundred Clubs and 30,000 members belong to the U.S.C.O. -the United Seniors of Ontario. The U.S.C.O. works for the betterment of all seniors, even those around this area are benefiting and to join is just $2 per year per person. New Horizon grants available The New Horizons grants are again available. When the Stan Lee Club began many things were purchased for the com- plex by receiving a grant from the New Horizons. The fall rally will be held in Zurich on Thurs., Oct. 9. If you plan to attend bring $10 to pay for your dinner at this rally. It can be brought to the next Stan Lee meet- ing to be held Oct 1 at 8 p.m. in the complex. Glen and Marlene Deichert are celebrating their 45th Wedding Anniversary and Glen's 80th Birthday with a party at the Exeter Legion Hall. Varna and Goshen Worship service was in Varna on Sunday with Colin Snyder leading worship. Next Sun., Sept. 21 there will be an important congregational meeting following the service in Goshen. All members are encouraged to attend this meeting. There will be a special board meeting Tues., Sept. 23 in Varna Church at 8 p.m. Goshen U.C.W. have a regular meeting on Sept. 25 and Varna U.C.W. are invited to attend. Fri., Sept. 26 there will be a bee on peeling potatoes at 7 p.m. if anyone wishes to help. Mark your calendars and plan to attend. Sun., Oct. 5 will be Varna anniversary as well as baptisms to cele- brate. Rev. Alec McGillvary will be leading worship. Oct. 12 will be Thanksgiving Sunday and will be cele- brated in Varna. Sun., Oct. 19 Goshen will be celebrating their anniver- sary as well a baptism. Rev. Pat Cook will be leading in worship. EXETER — A Pot Luck Luncheon kicked off South Huron Hospital Auxiliary's fall session Sept. 9. President Elaine Skinner welcomed the members back after the summer break. Sandra Faber updated the group about the Hospital Golf Tournament and Radiothon to be held at the Exeter Legion Sat., Oct. 18. Guest speaker and inte- rior designer/decorator Sue Haskett gave an informative talk. The Fall Rummage Sale will be held Wed., Oct. 29 and Thurs., Oct. 30. The next Auxiliary meeting will be Tues., Oct. 14.
