HENSALL — Grandparents Day
was well celebrated at Queensway
Sat., Sept. 6 with a Teddy Bear Ice
Cream party in the Courtyard.
Assorted Teddy Bears were dis-
played on the tables and teddy gra-
hams were among the toppings
sprinkled on the ice-cream sun-
daes. The numerous grandchildren
and great grandchildren present
were the featured entertainment
with residents treated to many
songs sung by the children. With
the microphone and amplifier set
up even the shyest child could be
heard, enjoyed and clapped for. We
had a beautiful sunny, warm day
for the family event.
Gail Mason and her Fellowship
Singers gave a wonderful gospel
music program Sun., Aug. 31 and
then spent time visiting with resi-
dents over refreshments. The
singers are in every other month to
sing gospel music to the residents
on a Sunday afternoon.
The Thresher Reunion in Blyth
was the destination Friday with res-
idents, staff and volunteer Edna
Deitz escorting residents to this
annual event. Even the sporadic
rain didn't spoil the day as there
were countless displays to see
indoors.
The Volunteer Auxiliary met for
their regular monthly meeting on
Tuesday and after their meeting
took part in the grand opening of
our Cafe which had been refur-
bished for use by residents and
their families with generous
Memorial Donations. Queensway's
longest serving volunteer Iva Reid
along with resident Beth Knox offi-
cially opened the new Cafe. This
will be a lovely area for more inti-
mate family gatherings and visits.
The Annual Staff Appreciation,
Years of Service Awards were pre-
sented Thursday to staff reaching
milestones of service. Throughout
the day assorted, meats, buns, sal-
ads, veggie trays, fruits and
desserts were available to staff on
all shifts to enjoy. Working with
residents in long term care in any
capacity, is as much a calling as a
profession and Queensway is
thankful for the caring people who
have chosen to serve here.
Exercises, massage, manicures,
music, coffee and news and a food
committee meeting contributed to a
very full week at Queensway.
