THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT
THAMES ROAD - Bridal shower: Some 50 ladies
and girls gathered in the basement of Thames Road-
Elimville Church on Tuesday evening to honour
bride -elect of September Kelli Fulton with a shower.
The basement was decorated with a bridal shower
banner, lit candles, navy and pink streamers, flowers
and white bells.
To the strains of Here Comes the Bride played by
Marjorie Johns, Kelli was escorted to a chair on the
platform by Shirley Cooper. Sharon Pavkeje wel-
comed everyone and Sandra Rowe conducted a
bridal shower word scramble contest.
Marjorie Johns played several tunes on the piano
which were much enjoyed.
Carolyn Johns said a few words. Shirley Cooper
read a nicely worded address. Amber Cooper car-
ried the gifts to Kelli. Nicole and Megan Pavkeje car -

Chili Sauce
AT HOME WE ALWAYS SERVED ROAST BEEF WITH CHILI
SAUCE AND IT BECAME A TRADITION IN THE FALL TO MAKE
UP A LARGE BATCH FOR OUR CANNED GOODS SHELF. THE
VERY FAVORITE RECIPE THAT I HAVE EVER MADE WAS FROM A
GOOD FRIEND OF THE FAMILY'S. I TOOK THE RECIPE AND
DOCTORED IT UP A BIT TO SUIT MY TASTES AND HAVE SINCE
MADE THIS RECIPE TIME AND AGAIN.
IN DAYS GONE BY WE NEVER USED TO PROCESS THE JARS
AFTER SEALING THE SAUCE IN, BUT IN THE MORE RECENT
YEARS I DO TAKE THE EXTRA PRECAUTION OF PROCESSING
THE JARS IN A WATER BATH FOR AT LEAST 5 MINUTES. I HAVE
COME TO FEEL IT IS A SAFER WAY TO GO ABOUT CANNING.
IF YOU WANT TO WATER BATH PROCESS A RECIPE,
RECOMMEND YOU LOOK UP A SIMILAR RECIPE TO THE ONE
YOU ARE MAKING TO SEE WHAT CANNING WEBSITES
RECOMMEND FOR TIME.
30 large ripe tomatoes (peeled, chopped with no green)
3 red peppers, 3 green peppers (chopped and seeded)
I 0 small onions (peeled, chopped)
4 stalk celery (chopped fine)
4 apples and 3 peaches (peeled and chopped fine)
2 cups vinegar
4 tbsp. pickling salt
8 cup white sugar
I tsp. ground allspice
I tsp. ground cloves
I tsp. ground ginger
A little cinnamon
Simmer all the ingredients in a heavy bottomed pot for at
least 1 and 1/2 hours or till your own desired thickness. Stir
regularly. Pour into hot sterilized jars leaving a 1/4 inch head
space and then water bath process for 5 minutes. Leave on
counter to cook and seal and then store in a dark cool place.

Healing occurs better on a fresh cut or
wound if you keep it moist and covered.
The idea of letting a wound "breathe"
can cause healing to delay. Apply some
petroleum jelly (i.e. Vaseline) and this
will keep the wound moist.
In 1900, the life expectancy in Canada was 47 years.
Today, Canadians can expect to live an average of
80.4 years. Women continue to outlive men. Girls born
in 2005 will live 4.7 years longer than boys. B.C.
residents have the highest life expectancy (81.2 years)
while Canada's three northern territories have the
lowest at 76.3 years.
Flossing is an important part of good dental hygiene.
The first dental floss was made commercially out of silk
back in 1882. We all know the value of flossing to our
general health but we don't really floss as much as we
should. Once daily before bedtime is an absolute
minimum. Do you floss daily?
Electroconvolsive Therapy (ECT) was first developed in
Italy in 1937. Often called "shock treatment" it is still
used successfully today to treat some types of mental
illness like serious depression.
