Huron OPP Const. JoannaVan Mierlo said the driver of a Hyundai travelling south on Morrison failed to stop for a stop sign and was struck by a Chevy pickup going westbound on Huron.The Hyundai then struck a hydro pole.The driver of the Hyundai was charged with failing to stop for a stop sign.A passenger in the pickup was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The congregation worshiped with the Lucan United Church congregation in Lucan, with Rev. Kathy Wreford leading the service. This concludes the summer sched- ule. At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sunday, Aug. 31, Rev. Dalice Sim cele- brated the Holy Eucharist. The message was about living through pain an suffering with God's love. POLICE BRIEFS OPP pleased with results HURON — Although Huron OPP officers were kept busy responding to over 200 calls for service during the long weekend, they are happy to report no fatalities or serious injuries occurred. In between calls for ser- vice, officers set up over 30 RIDE checkpoints in various parts of the county stopping hundreds of motorists. The RIDE checks also occurred on the water with one ves- sel passenger charged with consum- ing liquor in other than a licenced premise and another was charged with having open liquor. Many calls for service and charges were alcohol related. The Huron OPP are general- ly pleased with the results of the weekend. Motorist assists OPP with impaired driver BLUEWATER — On Aug. 31 infor- mation was received by the Huron OPP from a motorist regarding a possible impaired driver. The wit- ness saw the vehicle ahead of him drive off Bluewater Highway and into the ditch. An officer attended the scene and after an initial investi- gation, the driver of the vehicle in the ditch was arrested for impaired driving. He was taken to the Huron detachment where he met with a qualified breathalyzer technician and provided two samples of his breath. The results confirmed the driver had close to three times the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in his system. A 68 -year-old Perth East man will return to Goderich Court Nov. 3 to answer to one count of impaired driving and one count of driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in his system. His driver's licence was suspended for 90 days. First fall worship sevice on Sun., Sept. 7 By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD - On Thursday afternoon Ross and Kay Hodgert and Bill and Rhoda Rhode went to Blyth Festival Theatre to see "Courting Johanna" and then had supper at Kate's Station to celebrate their wedding anniversaries on Sept. 11. The Hodgert's will be celebrating 54 years and the Rhode's 60 years. Kay's birthday was Aug. 27 and Rhoda's was Aug. 28. On Friday afternoon the "Olde Tyme" friends and neighbours gathered at the Riverview Estates Club House to honour Bill and Rhoda Rhode's 60th wedding anniversary. Everyone played euchre and prizes were won by: Ladies High: Betty Borland; Men's High: Ross Hodgert; Ladies Low: Kay Cunnington; Men's Low: Gordon Pengelly; Lone Hands: Kay Cunnington; Lone Hands: Bill Rohde. Helen Webber read a nicely worded address and Myrtle Pengelly presented Bill and Rhoda with a pair of solar coloured lights a hummingbird and a butterfly. Both replied and thanks again. A delicious lunch of sandwiches, squares and beverages brought the very enjoyable afternoon to a close. Get well wishes are extended to Elson Lynn who underwent surgery recently. The officer observed a vehicle whose front plate was nearly falling off so a vehicle stop was initiated to advise the driver of the problem. As soon as the officer approached the driver, a strong odour of suspected marijuana was detected from inside the vehicle. The occupants turned over a quan- tity of cannabis to the officer and a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a prohibited switch blade knife. Two occupants were arrested and charged. A 20 -year- old Chippewas of the Thames First Nation man was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance marijuana. He will return to Exeter Court Nov. 27 to answer to the charge. A 21 -year-old London man was also charged with one count of unauthorized posses- sion of a prohibited weapon. He will also return to Exeter Court Nov. 27. Naked man arrested GRAND BEND — On Aug. 31 Huron OPP were dispatched to the Grand Bend Motorplex regarding an intoxicated male running naked on the grounds and failing to leave when directed by security. The naked male was later found on the northwest side of the park. He was arrested for public intoxication and checked by paramedics prior to being lodged in cells for the night.
