Marshmallow Bars
WHEN YOU NEED A BIG PAN OF SQUARES TO TAKE
SOMEWHERE THESE ONES ARE A FUN TAKE ON BROWNIES. I
GOT THE RECIPE FROM A MOTHER OF FIVE WHO WORKED
ALONGSIDE HER HUSBAND ON THE FARM, LOOKED AFTER
THE KIDS AND WORKED OUTSIDE THE HOME. SHE ALWAYS
HAD FRESH BAKED GOODIES ON HAND IN SPITE OF THE
HECTIC LIFESTYLE.
3/4 cup butter or margarine
1-1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
I -1/3 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
I/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. baking cocoa
1/2 cup nuts (optional)
Cream butter and sugar and add and mix in eggs and vanilla.
Mix dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture.
Spread in a greased jelly roll pan and bake at 350 for 15-18
minutes.
Sprinkle with 4 cups mini marshmallows evenly over cake and
return to oven for 2-3 min. Using a knife dipped in water,
spread the melted marshmallows evenly over cake as best you
can. Cool.
Topping:
1-1/3 cup chocolate chips
3 tbsp. margarine
1 cup peanut butter
2 cups crisp rice cereal
Melt chocolate chips, margarine and peanut butter till melted
over low heat. Remove from heat and stir n cereal. Spread
over base. Cool. Store in fridge with waxed paper between
layers. Enjoy.

Exeter Express ready for tournament
EXETER — The Exeter Express have set their sights
on the 'C' title this year after having won the OBA 'D'
title the past two years, says team spokesperson Joe
Fulop.
The tournament at Tillsonburg will feature 16 teams
in a double knockout format.
Exeter plays its first game against Pt. Hope Friday at
3 p.m.
Fulop said the Express players have high expecta-
tions as they see themselves as one of the stronger
teams in the field.
"Three regulars were out of the lineup for the latter
part of the playoff series against Tillsonburg."
Fulop said this includes pitcher -fielder Dan Masse
and two outfielders Adam Leppington and Nate Burns.
He said all three will hopefully be ready for the tour-
nament.
Fulop added the Express players also see the fielding
problems in the last game of the playoff with
Tillsonburg as being unlikely to happen again.
They point out that pitching has been the best part of
the team as there are seven good starting pitchers that
can be called on.
Fulop provided a look at the team as it heads into the
tournament:
The two aces have been Derek Masse and Chris
Gosnell.
They are backed by Dan Masse, Brian MacLeod,
Curtis Meyers, Terry Hogg and Rob Burk.
This does not include relievers Bobbie Grant, Lonnie
Hawke, Burns and Leppington who could surface in
the fmal games.
Exeter hitters have done the job with the leading
ones being Grant, Burk, Burns, Aaron Patterson,
Leppington, Justin Hayter and Tim Eifert.
And Dan Masse, Vic Oliveira and the ageless Hawke
have consistently come through in tournament play
every year, Fulop said.
Hogg has surprised everyone with his excellent
defensive plays and an improving batting average.
Gosnell and MacLeod are expected to break out of
slumps.
The defense is anchored by catcher Grant, who ranks
as the best player on the team.
The infield is normally strong with Patterson leading
Argument leads
to charges
SOUTH HURON — During the
early morning hours of Aug. 20 two
men continued an argument at a
South Huron apartment building
that had begun earlier in the night.
When the two men were separated,
one decided to punch out the win-
dow of an access door to the build-
ing. After investigating the incident,
the Huron OPP has charged a 34 -
year -old South Huron man with mis-
chief under $5,000. He will appear
in Exeter Court
Oct. 23 to
answer to his
charge.

MCDONALDS EMPLOYS OVER 100 PEOPLE BETWEEN OUR EXETER
AND GODERICH STORES AND WE WOULD LIKE
TO HONOUR ONE WHO HAS BEEN WITH US
SINCE THE EXETER STORE OPENED, PAM WALPER.
Pam is a hard working employee at Exeter McDonalds
since it opened in November 1993. Pam initially applied
for a position with McDonalds as it gave her flexibility to
arrange her hours around her bus driver's job. Over the
years Pam has been trained as a grill person, a cashier, a
drive thru person and she even tried out management.
Despite the fact that she never imagined herself working
for McDonalds for 14 years she continues to be a strong
asset to the team. Her knowledge is valued by all, she is
referred to as the "Mom" of the store as she has counseled
many of our younger staff.
She has observed many menu changes from serving the
conventional Big Mac and Egg McMuffin to the specialty
items incorporated in the "Healthy Choices" and "Value
Picks" menus.
Pam has become a popular employee among our
regular customers who visit the restaurant daily not only
for the good food but also for the great jokes told by Pam.
Pam is a great team player, a role model and a fun person
to work with.
Pam you are a valued employee and we here at
McDonalds appreciate you. To Pam and all of our great
staff, thank you for all that you do!

the way.
"His cohorts include slick fielding Hawke, the ultra -
competitive Burk, smooth fielding Hayter and two
excellent infielders in Hogg and MacLeod," Fulop adds.
Unmentioned to date is Gosnell who could play any
position on the field and be a regular.
The outfield is steady and solid with five possibles in
Leppington, Burns, Dan Masse, Oliveira and Eifert.
Gosnell, MacLeod and Hogg can do the job here as
well.
Doug Fairbairn provides excellent management for
the team, Fulop said.
Fairbairn has expressed confidence in the ability of
the team to win but is also concerned at the low
turnout of players for practices.
The team will have to win seven games over four
days to win the tournament.
