Choice steers and heifers sold 98 - 102 with sales to 106.50. Second cut sold 95 - 98. Cows sold $1 - $2 higher. Thursday Veal sold on a steady market. Lambs, sheep and goats also sold on a steady market. Friday Calves and yearlings sold on a steady mar- ket. Steers There were 144 steers on offer. Beef 105-125 with sales to 138, Good Holstein 94-97 sales to 99, Medium Holstein 94-97, Plain & Heavy Holstein Plain N/A, Good heavy 87-95 John Martin of Lucknow, consigned six veal averaging 766 lbs. selling for an average of 2008 Huron County Plowing Match WALTON - The 81st Huron County plowing match was held on The Grobbink Family Farms near Walton. Near perfect weather provided for very good plowing conditions and good crowds. The Junior Day on Thursday was high- lighted by the princess com- petition which was won by Michele Studhalter of Blyth. For the 4-H Sodbusters achievement day the top plowmen was Brandon McGavin who also pro- duced the best crown, winning The Ross Gordon Memorial tro- phy for Best Crown. On Friday 33 plowers com- peted in 11 classes. The Queen of the Furrow compe- tition was held with eight con- testants vying for the title. The 2007 Queen of the Furrow Margaret Vincent crowned Melissa Sparling of Varna as 2008 Queen of the Furrow. First Runner Up was Amber Geoffrey; best land plowed went to Sara Baker and Miss Friendship was Emily Moore. Many trophies and awards presented Jacob McGavin was the Huron Junior Champion with Junior Reserve going to Brandon McGavin. Huron Senior Champion was Brian McGavin with Paul Dodds receiving the Senior Reserve. The McGavin Family Award for highest score in class- es 2-4 (previous winners not eligible) was presented to Eugenia Pentland. The Don Dodds Award for the plower from out of county with the highest score went to Brian Davenport. Best Going Plow Team from MTS Farm Supply went to John DeKroon. Antique tractor awards Most Original Restored on display a McCormick W9 from The Reid Family. Most Original Unrestored on dis- play an Oliver 77 from Dave Marks. Antique plowing champion was Willis Wardell. Eugenia Pentland won the Val -Lea Farms Award for being the youngest plower competing from Huron County. The MGM Townsend Tire and Firestone Award (previous winners not eligible) Junior Kevin Haney and Senior Darryl O'Rourke. Huron County Wardens Award to the junior plower with the highest score (previ- ous winners not eligible) was presented to David Grobbink. In the Novelty Class (walk- ing plow) 1st went to Harry Nesbit, 2nd John Becker and 3rd Bill Anderson. In team plowing the Antique team beat the Huron County team. The market at Denfield Livestock Sales traded on a good demand at steady prices according to quality on all classes of fed cattle. A good offer- ing of cows traded steady, a large offering of holstein bull calves traded at stronger prices according to quali- ty- Ralph Poole, Wyoming sold 12 head average 1364 average price 95.91 with sales to 102 purchased by Norwich Packers and 100 purchased by Ralph Bos Meats of Strathroy.
