ket. Choice steers and heifers sold 98 - 102
with sales to 106.50. Second cut sold 95 - 98.
Cows sold $1 - $2 higher.
Thursday
Veal sold on a steady market. Lambs, sheep
and goats also sold on a steady market.
Friday
Calves and yearlings sold on a steady mar-
ket.

There were 144 steers on offer.

steers averaging 1577 lbs. selling for an aver-
age of 101.09. With one gold steer weighing
1510 lbs. selling for 106.50.

2008 Huron County Plowing Match
WALTON - The 81st Huron
County plowing match was
held on The Grobbink Family
Farms near Walton. Near
perfect weather provided for
very good plowing conditions
and good crowds. The Junior
Day on Thursday was high-
lighted by the princess com-
petition which was won by
Michele Studhalter of Blyth.
For the 4-H Sodbusters
achievement day the top
plowmen was Brandon
McGavin who also pro-
duced the best crown,
winning The Ross
Gordon Memorial tro-
phy for Best Crown.
On Friday 33
plowers com-
peted in 11 classes. The
Queen of the Furrow compe-
tition was held with eight con-
testants vying for the title.
The 2007 Queen of the
Furrow Margaret Vincent
crowned Melissa Sparling of
Varna as 2008 Queen of the
Furrow. First Runner Up was
Amber Geoffrey; best land
plowed went to Sara Baker
and Miss Friendship was
Emily Moore.
Many trophies and
awards presented

Huron Junior Champion with
Junior Reserve going to
Brandon McGavin. Huron
Senior Champion was Brian
McGavin with Paul Dodds
receiving the Senior Reserve.

In the Novelty Class (walk-
ing plow) 1st went to Harry
Nesbit, 2nd John Becker and
3rd Bill Anderson. In team
plowing the Antique team
beat the Huron County team.
