Crediton Mites wrap up successful baseball season
CREDITON — I want to say
thanks to the kids of the
Crediton Mites Minor Baseball
Team for a great season of
baseball.
You played a fantastic tourna-
ment and although we came up
short in the semifinals against a
team who only lost one game all
year all of you showed tremen-
dous heart and determination.
Mitchel Sutherland, I'm
impressed how quickly you
adapted to switching from a
right handed batter to a left.
Rikki-Lee Skinner, your speed
running the bases was unparal-
leled.
Jesse Simpson, you are every
coaches dream...reliable,
dependable, expendable...and a
"thank you Gary" after every
practice and game. I'm
impressed!
And Donovan Brewer... Wow,
what can I say? Fantastic sea-
son buddy!
You only got out once the
whole year...and how many
home runs? I lost track!
I could go on and on naming
each of you for the great things
you did to contribute to such a
successful season.
I enjoyed coaching each and
every one of you.
I also want to thank Joan Ryan
and Audrey Bergsma for orga-
nizing and running the conces-
sion booth the entire day.
Thanks to the parents who
were very supportive and fun to
work with.
Lori Dean and Scott
Simpson...thank you so much
for your help in coaching. I
could not have done it without
you.
And finally, congratulations
goes out to both Winthrop teams
(Winthrop -1 who won the 'A'
championship side) and
Winthrop -2, who went the
entire season without winning a
single game, took home the 'B'
championship side.
Great work guys! Article

Weekly minor soccer league scores
U7 Gold
This weeks game against the
green team was another well
played match.
All the hard work and practice
over the summer is paying off.
Kobe's passing skills were clear
as he completed a super one to
Nathan that resulted in a goal.
Conner and Kennedy made a
tough defensive pair that turned
away many a rush.
Alexis was incredible in goal
with a couple of out of this world
saves.
Vanessa demonstrated great
speed and passing ability to
keep the ball moving. Katie's
hard work and accurate kicks to
her teammates were awesome.
Goals by Nathan, Kennedy,
Alexis and Vanessa helped us to
win the match.
Great job Gold team, you have
really come a long way in your
passing and soccer skills over
the past few months. Go Gold!
U7 Blue
The team ended the season on
a strong note Wednesday night
against a feisty purple team.
Hanna Tait was the top scorer
with five goals, a career record.
Peter Frielink had another
excellent game scoring several
times as well. Congratulations to
Ben Prins for scoring his first
goal of the season.
Emma Dietrich attacked the
purple net time after time. Lexi
Szabo also scored a goal and
made several key passes during
the game to assist some goals.
Dylan Kints was a man on a
mission. He was a key defender
and made several runs with the
ball and gained an assist. Milian
Reiger played the best game of
the season. She was shielding
the ball on defense and scored
her first goal. Great work!!
U7 Red
Red versus Blue
Tanner tried to fend off a
strong blue squad with three
great saves in a row but the Red
Team still came out with the
loss.
Dean and Kurt were strong on
defense as there was a lot of
intense Red end action. Logan
was showing his stuff once again
with the fancy footwork.
Red versus Purple
Red had two fierce forward
lines this week and were
unstoppable.
Red goals were scored by Kyle,
Kurt, Logan and Tanner. Nice
communication and passing.
Despite having a small squad,
Purple made a huge effort.
Red versus Gold
This was the best showing by
the entire Red team this season.
"The JJs" (Jacqueline and
Jillian) and Taylor really made
efforts to get the ball away from
Gold.
Cormick came with his game
face on and was using big kicks
to clear the ball out of the Red
end.
Tanner and Kurt put on a lot
of miles and with some help
from AJ, Paiton and Dean, final-
ly both got one past Gold. Jack,
Kyle and Logan kept the goal
well protected.
It was a closely matched game.
Red versus Green
July 31
What a way to wrap up the
season. Logan and Tanner each
came out with hat tricks and
Kyle was just behind them with
two goals.
Jack, AJ and Kurt helped bring
Red to victory as well. Dean was
in position many times to score
and helped set up his team-
mates with some great passes.
Taylor just missed out on his
opportunity for a goal but put
forth his best effort of the sea-
son. Cormick was our starting
goalie and did a super job. Jack
and Logan took over and made
some big saves.
You have all improved dra-
matically and this game proved
it.
U11 Girls
Aug. 7
South Huron Lightning 1
versus South Huron Thunder
1
Great game by both evenly
matched teams.
Each team having their share
of the ball having to defend and
attack for good periods of the
game.
With the game tied 0-0 at half
time, the Lightning struck first in
the second -half with a well
taken goal by Danielle Smith's
first goal of the year.
Thunder rumbled back and
Kasie Dasilva tied the game with
a hard shot from just inside the
penalty box. Good luck to both
teams in their Challenge Cup
quest.
U13
Aug. 6
South Huron's U13 girls played
an exciting home game against
Strathroy.
The girls played strong
defence keeping the play in the
opposing end for most of the
game as well as having many
shots on net.
The game ended in a tie with a
score of 0-0.
Good job girls, in dominating
the game!!
U13 Boys
South Huron 0 North
Middlesex #1 2
Some heroic second half goal -
keeping from Robbie Anderson
kept us in the game.
Not our best performance of
the season and we learned if we
do not shoot we will never score.
