Express win game one over Red Sox
EXETER — The Exeter
Express hosted the
Tillsonburg Red Sox Aug.
5 in game one of their
semifinal series.
As expected the game
was full of action on the
field, said Exeter
spokesperson Joe Fulop.
All of the scoring took
place in the bottom of the
first as the Express
pushed across three runs
and made them stand up.
The rally consisted of a
single by Rob Burk, a walk
to Bobbie Grant, singles
from the bats of Justin
Hayter and Terry Hogg
and two Tillsonburg
errors.
Tillsonburg had nine hits
off starter Chris Gosnell
but were unable to score
any runs.
Gosnell and Grant were
able to mix up the pitches
and keep the Tillsonburg
batters off balance.
Fulop said Grant was
fantastic and threw out
five runners trying to steal
second base.
The infield combo of
Aaron Patterson, Burk and
Brian MacLeod pulled off
two sparkling double
plays.
Fulop added Justin
Hayter was a vacuum at
third base and the outfield
of Adam Leppington, Hogg
and Tim Eifert ran down
every fly ball with ease.
Finally the umpires
called a fair game
throughout the evening.
Gosnell struck out eight
batters and walked only
two as he pitched his sec-
ond consecutive shutout.
Hayter led the Express
attack with three hits.
Others came from the
rally mentioned previously
and from Patterson and
Eifert.
