Back -Pack program needs help
HURON -BRUCE — Help is needed more than ever to
ensure children in our community get the right start at
school.
The United Way of Bruce Grey has a list of 1,500 chil-
dren in need of back packs and school supplies.
The Huron United Way and United Way of Perth
County are both helping hundreds more.
Huron United Way executive director
Michelle Gellatly says, "This year is
especially difficult. The numbers are
-up dramatically due to changes in gov-
ernment assistance for low-income
families."
For the fourth year in a row, 101.7
The One has held "The Giving Back -
Pack Program."
Program director Gina Lorentz says, "A new school
year is a fresh start for students, filled with opportunities
to learn, have fun and grow as a person. We're fortunate
to live in a caring and generous community, ready to
help children on the path to a successful year."
The One Giving Back -Pack Campaign is underway and
continues until the end of the month.
Backpacks and other essential school items can be
dropped off at Zellers or Mark's Work Wearhouse Stores
in Goderich, Hanover, Owen Sound and Listowel. There
are also collection bins at MicroAge Basics in Goderich
and Wingham.
Gellatly says they welcome good quality used scientific
calculators, because it's a bigger ticket item that's in
high demand.
If you prefer to make a financial donation, you can do
so through your local United Way Families in need can
also be in touch with the agency.

Veggies Wrapped Up
I LOVE VEGETABLES ON THE BBQ. MOST OFTEN WE USE THE
GRILL BASKETS AND AFTER TOSSING FRESH CHUNKS OF
VEGGIES IN OIL AND SEASONING THEN WITH VEGETABLES
FLAKES OR CLUB HOUSE SEASONINGS WE JUST COOK THEM
ALONGSIDE OUR BBQ MEAT. OTHER TIMES I GET A BIT
MORE CREATIVE AND DO AN ASSORTMENT OF VEGETABLES IN
TINFOIL. BE SURE TO EXPERIMENT WITH THE VEGGIES YOU
USE, THE CHEESES AND SAUCES—EVERY MEAL CAN BE A NEW
CREATION.
On a large piece of well sprayed tinfoil place the
following:
Slithered carrots
Onion rings
Zucchini slices
Mushrooms sliced
Red, green, yellow and/or orange peppers slithered
Chunks of cheddar cheese
Sprinkle with black pepper and drizzle with your favorite
BBQ sauce
Wrap up tightly and then double wrap again. Put of the
BBQ for about 30 minutes, turning frequently!
Open up carefully and then put the veggies in a bowl to
serve with your meal! Wow.
