It's excellent corn and always fresh. Watch for the corn wagon. Elizabeth Bennett, 83, of London died at University Hospital on Tues., Aug. 5. Beth was the wife of a for- mer St. Thomas Anglican Church minister in Granton, the late Rev. Lyle A. Bennett, who died on May 25, 2008. Mrs. Bennett was the mother of Robert and the late Thomas Bennett, also survived by several grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A memorial service was held at St. James Westminister Anglican Church, London, on Fri., Aug. 8. Interment to follow in Beechwood Cemetery, Concord, ON. Congregations worship together There was no service at Granton - Wesley United Church on Sim., Aug. 10. The congregation worshiped with the Lucan United Church con- gregation in Lucan, where Rev. Kathy Wreford and Pastor Paul Vollick led the service. At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sun., Aug. 10, Rev. Dalice Sim led the service of morn- ing prayer. Carrie's daughter Tiffany was also here from Chicago visiting for five days last week. A buck and doe was held for Darryl Smale (son of Sylvia) and Kelly Rutten on Aug. 8 at the complex in Zurich. The couple are planning to be married in October. May we offer our sympathy to the family and relatives of the late Lylyan Greb who passed away on July 29 at 101 year's old from Queensway Nursing Home in Hensall and formerly of Zurich. Condolences espe- cially go out to her son Glen of RR 3 Zurich. Mary -Lou Denomme is happy to announce the arrival of her 27th grand- child being Kylie born on July 27 to proud parents Angela and Dave Clarke of Stratford. Patti and Steve Geoffrey are happy first time grand- parents to baby girl Dilynn Jean Anderson who was born on Aug. 4 to Rebecca and Matt who live in Seaforth. Carmel recently enjoyed spending four days in Windsor visiting with her mother Jeanne Bedard, some relatives and friends (travelling by bus). A buck and doe was held for Elizabeth Groot and Bryan Stuckless on Aug. 1 at the Hensall Arena. She is the daughter of Elze and John Groot Jr. of RR 3 Zurich. The couple are planning to be married in September. Our daughter Meagan Sweeney of Toronto (who is an event planner and travels to various places) was recently in Vancouver doing an event at Whistler, B.C. She visited with Brittany Eybergen for a couple of days and had just gone through on the Sea -to -Sky Highway near Porteau Cove, B.C. the same afternoon that the rock slide blocked the road at 11 p.m.on July 31 as she and others were driving back to Vancouver to catch a flight at the airport to Calgary to do another event. (I still can't believe it!) Keith Volland and Flora along with his sister Lola Nixon of Hensall recently travelled to Windsor in July for five days and visited his brother Gerald and Ladeena Volland. All enjoyed going to see a live concert of Randy Travis and Neil Sedaka at the new "Caesar's Colosseum" at the Windsor Casino which has been all renovated and looks really nice. Kenny Rogers had also entertained there in July. Shannon is engaged to Jeff LaPorte and their wedding will be in September. Ray and Janice Hartman recently toured Alaska, The Yukon, Alberta, and Northern B.C. for three weeks. Their daughter Maureen and Gary Fisher of Northern Alberta spent the past two weeks in Zurich visiting family members. Upcoming annual Zurich Bean Festival The clean up at the Bean Festival Kitchen by commit- tee members took place on Aug. 12 and preparations are now underway for the annual Bean Festival on Sat., Aug. 23. The cooking and stirring of the beans will begin on Sun., Aug. 17 every night at the kitchen on Victoria St. Anyone wanting to help stir the hot beans are welcome to come down by 7 p.m. Bring a friend and stir some beans - its a lot of fun! On Sat., Aug. 9 the senior members of the Mennonite Church (those over 60 years of age) were treated to a barbecue supper and fun evening which had been pre- pared by the Ministry to Youth and their Families group. The family of Betty Grenier and members of the Rau family recently travelled to Michigan and attended the funeral of Antionette Quenneville. Glad Days Another very successful Glad Days for Epilepsy was held in Zurich Aug. 7 and 8. Many thanks to all who came to support this event. Thanks to Mary Ducharme and all the volunteers who helped sell the Glads. A big celebration was held at the home of Peter and Jeannette Regier recently on the occasion of Peter's retirement, his 65th birth- day and the couple's recent 45th anniversary. Belated Happy 97th Birthday wishes go out to Billy Watson on Aug. 3 He is still very active, lives in his own house and cooks his own meals etc. Every after- noon he rides his scooter to have coffee at Erb's Country Kitchen with his friends. Brent O'Brien and friend Natalie Murray of Sydney Australia recently visited with his mother Donna and sister Pam and family. Shari and John Rolland of Durand Court spent the past two weeks near Midland (Penataguishene) visiting his mother Elise. Gord and Cecilia Smith along with Mark and Kelly Lynn Choctas and baby Kaeden enjoyed a week's vacation in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. While there, they celebrated Mark and Kelly Lynn's 5th wed- ding anniversary. The children and grand- children of Percy and Marie Bedard held a Bedard reunion at the Hensall Pavilion with over 100 attending.
