Barbecue for family and friends onAug. 24
HENSALL — Monday morning exercis-
es started the week for residents as they
worked their way through the routine
which promotes flexibility. Following
exercises, word games and quizzes gave
everyone a mental workout. In the after-
noon, program staff facilitated bingo for
several residents.
Volunteer Auxiliary members gathered
Tuesday morning to preview the upcom-
ing events and offer assistance where
needed. It has been a busy summer at
Queensway with the volunteers' invalu-
able help making possible many more
outdoor opportunities for residents that
could otherwise not be offered. Rev. Jim
Vellenga of Bethel Reform in Exeter led
worship on Tuesday with Belva Fuss as
volunteer organist and Lillian Beer
assisting residents. In the afternoon Ice
Cream Parlour drew many ice cream
lovers who were eager to get creative
with the large selection of toppings for
their sundaes.
Wednesday morning music therapist
Lisa Stewart worked with residents who
benefit from her programs. In the after-
noon retirement residents enjoyed ice
cream floats made with their choice of
root beer or orange pop. Community
seniors are invited to join us in the retire-
ment home anytime for a visit and to stay
cool.
Baking group also met in the afternoon
and mixed up a delicious batch of pecan,
raisin tarts to be served at the lunch fol-
lowing our evening memorial service.
Everyone was thankful to have our pas-
toral care volunteer Rev. Marybeth
Wilson back from holidays to
lead the memorial service.
Auxiliary volunteer Francis
Kinsman was pianist and Edna
Dietz and Merle McLellan
helped serve refreshments at
the service.
Queensway residents are
benefiting from the fresh veg-
etables of the season with a
busy afternoon spent Thursday
husking corn for the supper
meal. Volunteer Andy Bilke
expertly barbecued chicken
breasts which were served
