Wednesday, August 6, 2008 SPORTS Times—Advocate 11 Weekly soccer scores U7 Gold Gold team continued to play for victory as they demonstrated solid pass- ing skills and teamwork. Vanessa displayed many defensive moves due to her fine improvement at controlling the ball. Colin and Conner continued using their speedy legs to hustle in both directions on the field. Kobe worked very hard carry- ing the ball and using some 'new moves' to defend the ball. Katie was always watching the ball which helped her passing skills and when receiving passes. Nolan made a spectacular save on a strong kick from the Purple team. Nathan and Alexis worked well in the offensive positions pass- ing the ball and working together to score goals. Cameron and Kennedy were consistent team members in setting up the ball for their team mates. We are proud of each of you and your soc- cer progress. U10 Boys LDYSL The South Huron 98 Boys played a strong game in London against Oakridge Rebels on Thursday. Despite falling 7-4, the boys played very well, especially in the second half. Jacob Hrudka started the scor- ing early in the first half with a well-placed shot that slipped into the cor- ner of the goal. After the hosts opened a strong lead, Jared DenOtter drove a long, high shot that sailed over the keeper's outstretched arms into the goal to end the first half. The second half play was owned by South Huron. DenOtter took a strong free kick at the goal and when it rebounded off a defender, Sam McEwan pounced on it and drove the ball hard into the low corner of the goal. After taking a nice pass from Bradley Regier late in the game, Luc Arbour was brought down in the opponents' penalty area and was awarded a penalty kick. Arbour made no mistake on the penalty and that finished the scoring at 7-4. Fraser Fulton, Ben Turner, and Harley Oster had strong defensive games and Brendan Gordon was steady at the sweeper position. Austin Glavin used his speed to create several offensive chances throughout the game. The boys play at home on Thursday at SHDHS at 6:45 p.m. U11 South Huron 2 versus Lucan 4 Goals: Ben Ryan, Evan Hardie A good attempt at a comeback after a score- less first half and 3 quick goals by Lucan, but we fell a bit short. Lots of good chances throughout the game, but we came up against a tough goalie who shut the door. U11 July 31 North Middlsex 1 ver- sus South Huron Lightning 2 Hard game for both teams with one substitute for North Mddx and none for South Huron. Full marks to North Middlesex for using every opportunity to attack and they deserved their goal in the late stages. Our girls played really well and worked hard on keeping posses- sion with some great passing and running with the ball. They were very tired at the end but kept up the pressure on North Middx. Sarah got her first goal as she switched to mid field after a few great weeks in defense. Goal Scorers: Sarah Dietrich and Maaike Vanwindergen. U13 July 29 Glencoe 7 versus South Huron 6 An exciting, offense ori- ented match against the best team in the league. The lead went back and forth several times with Glencoe holding on for the win. The forwards displayed great team work in setting up fast breaks, passes and shooting with five differ- ent forwards scoring. Special shout out to Carson, Ryan and Jared on strong defensive play in second half. Goals: Quinton, Sean, Rob, Kurtis (2) and Mark Anthony. U13 On Wednesday South Huron's U13 girls trav- elled to St.Marys and brought home another win. The girls played a dom- inating game against St. Marys winning 3-1. Goals: Aimee Rush, Kelsey Becker and Morgan Allen.
