Although teBrinke plays the central role, much of the play focuses on a fictional character of 13 -year-old Sarah, who is described as a fictional char- acter who represents multiple members of the commu- nity, to tell the story. "Innocence Lost" follows Sarah from the hours before the murder as her, Harper, Truscott and other children enjoy a summer night until Harper goes missing and is eventually found dead. The play gradually speeds up as events overtake both the audience and Truscott, leaving both overwhelmed. Sarah's feelings change as the play goes on, from admitting to a crush on Truscott to seeing him guilty before experiencing questions of his guilt as the years go by. "Innocence Lost, a play about Steven Truscott" plays at the Blyth Festival until Sept. 6.
