16 Times -Advocate Wednesday, July 23, 2008 Ice cream lovers beat the heat at Queensway HENSALL - Residents at Queensway Nursing Home welcomed their family mem- bers and friends to a barbecue on Sun., July 20 for a delicious meal of barbecued chicken breast or sausage, buns, assorted salads, pie and ice- cream. John and Geneva Heaman's Band played their wonderful classic country music for the occasion which was held indoors due to the inclement weather. Retirement home residents plan to wel- come their family and friends to another barbecue on Aug. 24. Residents have been enjoying the Monday afternoon Bingos sponsored by the Kippen United Church women throughout July. Rev. John Zwaan led worship Tues., July 8 and Pastor Harry Freilink provided the service Tues., July 15. Belva Fuss was volunteer organist for the ser- vices. Each Tuesday afternoon ice cream lovers have been gathering outdoors on the deck for ice-cream sundaes built to their specifications from a vast assortment of toppings. A deli- cious way to beat the heat. Retirement residents have been busy recently with a vari- ety of activities. Several indi- viduals enjoyed a scenic view of the Morrison Dam when they toured by golf cart on Tuesday afternoon. Thursday morning a special treat in the retirement home dining room was fresh blueberry pancakes flipped on the griddle by administrator Kathy Holdsworth as part of the monthly spe- cial breakfast. Last week, Esther Wright, Doug Wedlake and retirement home director, Julie Grimminck attended the square dancing convention in London where Doug Big Brothers plan Children's Festival EXETER - The Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron Children's Festival is this Saturday at the former Darling's parking lot on Main Street in Exeter. Come out at 9 a.m. to browse through the yard sale, purchase a pie from Community Living South Huron or some baked goods made from local produce. There are many activi- ties planned, such as a bubble pool, boat pond, princess tiaras, airplanes, colouring pages, paper plate masks and more. You can also check out the booths set up by local organizations and view a dog obedience demon- stration. Throughout the day you can visit with the White Squirrel, Scribbles the Clown and the char- acters from McDonald's. A drum circle takes place at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. At 11 a.m. there will be a barbecue during which donations will be accept- ed. Music will be provided throughout the day. All proceeds from the day's events go towards sup- porting the programs and services at Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron. Close to 40 competitors participat- ed, some travelling from as far away as Tilsonburg and Kitchener, Waterloo. The shoot consisted of two events 100-16 yard targets as well as 100 handicap targets where shooters are assigned yardage to be classed fairly with shooters of differnt abilities.
