Express swept byTillonsburg in double header
EXETER — Stompin
Tom Connors once sang a
song about how his back
still ached when he heard
that word "Tillsonburg",
says Exeter Express team
spokeperson Joe Fulop as
the Exeter Express lost
both games 6-3 and 3-1 in
Tillsonburg.
Fulop added every year
when it is time to play in
Tillsonburg Exeter manag-
er Doug Fairbairn finds it
difficult to line up an ade-
quate number of players.
Fulop said this was the
case again on Sunday
when the double header
scheduled for Exeter had
to be moved to Tillsonburg
because of unplayable
conditons in Exeter.
Fairbairn was able to
muster nine for each game
and Fulop said probably
six of the players would
not have played under bet-
ter conditions as there
were cases of the flu, sore
hands, and sore legs but
they had to play or forfeit
the game.
"Where were the other
seven players?" said
Fulop.
No answers were given
other than Tillsonburg is a
long drive and it is a
Sunday date.
In game one Fairbairn
turned to his ace Derek
Masse.
Masse pitched as well as
he could but the Red Sox
hitters seemed to like his
speedy pitches and came
up with four earned runs
on nine hits. Only two Red
Sox hitters struck out.
Express jumped to an
early lead by scoring a run
in the first inning.
Rob Burk reached third
base due to two
Tillsonburg errors and
was driven home by a
Chris Gosnell single.
Exeter added two more
in the second on a walk to
Nate Burns, bunt singles
by Vic Oliveira and Terry
Hogg and a catcher's
error.
The Express could
muster only four hits dur-
ing the game.
Oliveira had two of these
hits while Gosnell and
Hogg added one each.

Normally that would be
enough runs but not on
this day.
Tillsonburg rallied for
three runs in the second
on three hits.
They gained two more in
the third on two hits and
two errors.
Their final run came in
the fourth on two more
hits.
Game two saw Fairbairn
giving the start to Burk
who drew Tillsonburg's
ace pitcher as his oppo-
nent.
Burk was magnificent as
he held the Red Sox to five
hits and no runs over the
first five innings.
The Express plated their
only run in the second as
Burns singled and was dri-
ven home by an Adam
Leppington double.
The Express managed
only three hits in the game
but had five walks to help
their cause.
Reaching base twice in
the game were Lonnie
Hawke, Gosnell, Justin
Hayter and Leppington.
A tired Burk was beaten
in the sixth as Tillsonburg
rallied for two runs on
three hits to win the game.
Burk gave up nine hits in
total.
The team deserved a
better fate as they played
as well as they could in
both games.
Their efforts were just
short of being enough to
win in both games.
The Express played the
London Bulls Tuesday in
London and face them
again Friday night in
Exeter.
There will be a double
header in Exeter on
Sunday in a rematch
against Tillsonburg if
weather conditions and
diamond conditions are
suitable.

JN 6
Plan number 1.2-621 IDEAL STARTER HOME This three -gabled, two-bedroom house would make an ideal starter home for a young couple with one child,
especially as the design includes an unfinished basement, offering room for expansion. The entry, through a covered porch set off by a single stone -based
pilaster, leads into an L-shaped foyer where a coat closet is located opposite a roomier walk-in closet. To the right, an arched opening leads to a stairway, should
the basement be included, as well as to the master suite and second bedroom. Directly ahead, a second archway frames the great -room complex, an open-plan
affair that includes the dining room and kitchen. The spacious great room, which includes a built-in desk that will help organize chores such as paying bills,
opens onto a covered deck that overlooks the back garden. The dining room, which includes an optional built -out buffet, is separated from the great room only
by a partial wall, and features an extra -deep window sill for plants and collectibles. A hexagonal eating bar divides the dining room from the kitchen, where an L-
shaped counter configuration promises step -saving efficiency. The kitchen enjoys access to the laundry room. Doors from the double garage lead outside, as
well as into the laundry room, which can double as a mud room. The master suite overlooks the back garden through a window featuring a deep sill that could
be used as a window seat. The lay -out includes a long, narrow walk-in closet, roomy enough for any couple's clothing, as well as a five -piece ensuite that
includes a shower stall. The soaker tub boasts its own window. Twin basins will help to ease the morning rush-hour. Exterior finishes include shingles and
decorate wooden bracing in two of the three gables, painted trim, mullioned windowed with extra -wide frames and horizontal siding. The two tripartite garage
doors add a touch of elegance. This home measures 56 feet wide by 63 feet, six inches deep, for a total of 1,844 square feet, plus the unfinished basement.
Plans for design 1-2-621 are available for $617 (set of 5), $694 (set of 8) and $743 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add
$25.00 for Priority charges within B.C. or $45.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and Priority
charges. Our 40th Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing over 300 plans is available for $13.50 (includes taxes, postage and handling). Make all cheques
