1 35th Anniversary
celebration a success
Wow! what a wonderful cele-
bration we had for St. Peter's
Catholic Church on the
Bluewater Hwy (St. Joseph's) on
the occasion of its 135th
Anniversary. The celebration
was held in a huge tent last
Saturday and Sunday with close
to 1,300 people attending the
two day event.
The fun began with perfect
weather on the Friday evening.
Friends and relatives came from
far and near to enjoy visiting
with each other while listening
to some great music and singing
that was provided by several
local groups and bands; com-
plete with a lovely lunch served
by the CWL.
Sunday mass was held in the
tent at 10:30 a.m. with Bishop
Fabbro and Fr. Peter Keller
along with three other priests
and a large choir which was
really nice.
Afterwards visitors toured
through the newly renovated
and re -decorated church fol-
lowed by a delicious buffet
lunch and afternoon social.
The children had their faces
painted by a clown and had a
jumping game to play in. The
lucky winner of the beautiful
C.W.L. quilt went to Melinda
Cortvriend from Kitchener;
while the needle point picture
was won by Lorna Bailey of St.
Marys. All those involved in
arranging this successful cele-
bration are to be congratulated
on a job well done.
Beth and Joe Boyle of Grand
Bend and boys Michael
and James spent last
week in Calgary enjoy-
ing a visit with his
brother Mike and
Sharon Boyle, and a trip
to the stampede.

joined together at the
Varna church for a bridal
shower in honour of Julie
Webster (daughter of Bob
and June) on the occasion
of her forthcoming mar-
riage Sept 27.
Joyce Dowson welcomed
and thanked everyone for
coming. She called on
Alysha Dowson to share
her gift of music and song.
Joyce then read a reading

Varna Players appeared
for another humorous skit
that brought many laughs.
Players were Deb Rathwell
acting as June Webster,

Julie and Joyce Taylor
playing the part of Bob.

well as Joyce Dowson as
narrator.
Krista Rathwell then
read an address to Julie
and Julie then was the
recipient of many lovely
and useful gifts. Julie gra-
ciously thanked everyone
and everyone enjoyed cake
and conversation.
Worship was held in
Varna on Sunday with
guest speaker Rev. John
Zwann leading in worship.
