Drug charge in Grand Bend
GRAND BEND — On June 15 an OPP officer working
in Grand Bend observed a male party walking with open
liquor on Ellwood Street. The officer approached the
male and demanded identification from him. The male
is alleged to have argued with the officer and refused to
comply with the lawful demand. It was noted that the
man also showed signs of intoxication and was arrested.
Subsequent to his arrest, it was found that he had in his
possession a small quantity of suspected marijuana. The
19 -year-old South Huron teen faces an additional
charge of possession of a controlled substance. He is in
Sarnia Court Aug. 11.
Local woman shines on CD
HURON — Seventeen Huron
County women have had the expe-
rience of a lifetime, thanks to a
vision to encourage musicians to
pursue their careers from within
the county, a vision that came to be
known as "Noted!"
In the fall of 2007, female musi-
cians from Huron County were
publicly invited to submit a demo
track and their stories, for a chance
to participate in this unique CD pro-
duction.
In February of this year, under
the direction of producer Louise
Fagan, 15 singers and two musi-
cians laid down 14 tracks at
recording engineer Glen Teeple's
studio, The Music Room, in Arkona.
Tracks were mixed and mastered,
then pressed onto CDs, ready for
the public ear.
The CD was formally released in
front of an audience of over 400
people May 8 at South Huron Rec
Centre in Exeter. The 17 partici-
pants opened the evening by
appearing at the back of the large
room and walking single -file
towards the stage as the crowd
applauded. Seaforth resident Kim
Souch gave the simple introduction,
"This One's for the Girls," then
strummed the opening chord of the
Martina McBride song, as all the
women joined in.
104.9 The Beach's Ally Anderson
emceed the evening, aided in her
introductions by project visionary
Kimberley Payne. Together they
presented to the public each of the
"Noted!" ladies in the order they
appear on the CD.
Crediton resident Megan
Finkbeiner is grateful for the
opportunity that has introduced her
to "a lot of great people."
Reminiscing about the CD launch
experience, Finkbeiner says, "It
was a great success," and credits
her co -performers and their musi-
cians.
"I thought it was great having all
the girls do opening and closing
songs together. It really empha-
sized how we are all a part of this
project and how we are encourag-
ing one another."
The song Finkbeiner chose to
record for the "Noted!" project,
"Magpie" was written by Londoner
Allison Brown. It is consistent with
her usual country genre, but the
singer says it's "a bit different from
what I usually sing, giving me the
opportunity to play around with it
and make it my own."
Before being selected as one of
the "Noted!" ladies, Finkbeiner took
every opportunity to sing, her prior
appearances including the Exeter
Villa and Blue Water Rest Home, as
well as past Canada Day celebra-
tions, assemblies at South Huron
High School, and the
"Western Idol" competition at
Western University, where the 19 -
year -old recently completed her
first year of studies.
Now, this Huron native is spread-
ing her talent to the rest of the
county with prior performances at
Victoria Park in Seaforth and July
10 at the Bayfield Town Hall with
the rest of the group. Tickets are
$10 each and are available at the
Huron United Way office in
Goderich and The Brew'n Arms
restaurant in Bayfield.
Performance information, as well
as clips of the tracks, can be found
on the "Noted!" Facebook page.
CDs are available for purchase at
Ernie King Music, J's Bistro and the
Huron United Way in Goderich, The
Brew'n Arms restaurant and The
Village Bookstore in Bayfield, Ernie
King Music in Wingham and Mane
Event hair salon in Exeter. Call the
United Way office at 524-7900 for
