Ken Oke confirmed with the Times - Advocate last week he is seeking the warden's position for next year. So far Oke's competition is current Warden John Bezaire, who is seeking a second term. County councillors will vote on the issue in the first week of December. Oke said he has been planning on running for warden for a couple of years. With 16 years in municipal politics (including seven years on South Huron council and the previous nine years on the former Usborne Township council), Oke said he thinks he has something to offer the county before the end of his political career. Asked about the major issues the rerr ki,---7--- r -c- --7-) 1 county faces, Oke says council has to look at downsizing county council. "We have to move fairly quickly," he said, adding he thinks Huron has one of the bigger county councils in Ontario and council Ken Oke should deal with the issue before the next election. County council has 21 members now and Oke said the downsizing has to be "substantial." Oke said he isn't concerned about the extra workload he would carry if he's chosen as warden. "I'm looking at it as a challenge," he said, adding he is used to working a lot of hours. Oke officially announced to South Huron council Monday night that he is seeking the warden's position. Dion visiting Exeter EXETER — Federal Liberal leader Stephane Dion is coming to Exeter Friday. Huron -Bruce Liberal candidate Greg McClinchey made the announcement last week. In addition to several small stops, the visit, scheduled for Friday at MacNaughton Park at noon, will feature a public barbecue and media availability. But it won't be free — cost for the barbecue is $20 per adult or $5 for children under 10. McClinchey states, "When Mr. Dion first visited Huron -Bruce in May of 2007, he found himself capti- vated by the people, the communities and the natur- al surroundings of the area. At that time, he com- mitted to returning for another visit, and I am pleased to announce that he is making good on that promise. "Given that Mr. Dion is a hands-on person, I strongly believe that his return visit is a clear indica- tor that he sees the real potential of Huron -Bruce.
