Sumner teen nights
start at Exeter library
HURON — The Huron
County Library is adding
teen game nights and
drop-in gaming to its slate
of year round program
offerings, with the goal of
creating positive commu-
nity associations with the
library.
All 12 branches have a
variety of board and card
games on their shelves
which are there for in
library use.
Families and groups of
friends can drop in and
play whenever the library
is open, or parents can set
their children up with a
game to free them to
browse the library collec-
tion.
Beginning in July, 10 of
the 12 branches will begin
hosting monthly gaming
events for Huron County
youth ages 12-18 years
old.
Each event will feature a
Big Screen Nintendo Wii
tournament (featured
games will include Rock
Band, Guitar Hero, Super
Smash Brothers and
Dance Dance Revolution)
and a variety of video,
card and board games.
Prizes and snacks will be
provided at each event
and all of this comes at no
cost to the patrons.
During the summer all
events will run from 6-8
p.m. Some libraries could
switch from 4 to 6 p.m. in
the fall to accommodate
students coming directly
from school.
For more information
check with your local
librarian or visit the
"Video Games at the

Play is well worth
a trip to Stratford
By Karen Janzen
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES -ADVOCATE
STRATFORD - The comedy `All's Well That Ends
Well' by William Shakespeare opened at the Stratford
Shakespeare Festival this past weekend to a full
house.
The play starts with a dilemma. Helena, the
orphaned daughter of a great doctor, has served as a
gentlewoman in the household of the Countess of
Rossilion and has developed a strong, secret love for
Bertram, the son of the Countess. Bertram, on the
other hand, regards Helena as a class below him and
takes no notice of her. He heads to Paris to attend the
king's court.
Meanwhile, in Paris, the King of France is deathly ill.
Helena goes to Paris and offers the king a prescription
of her father's that might cure him. She strikes a deal
with the king that if he is cured, he will allow her to
have the pick of the bachelors at his court.
You guessed it! The king is cured and Helena choos-
es Bertram who is reluctantly forced to marry her.
However, he decides he would rather face death than
remain married and he slips off to a war in Tuscany
with his companion, Parolles.
What follows are more twists and turns as Helena
pursues her cunning plot to find Bertram and capture
his love.
The cast of the play is a balance of actors making
their debut at Stratford (Daniela Vlaskalic as Helena,
Jeff Lillico as Bertram, Brian Dennehy as the King of
France) and those who have many seasons to their
credit (Martha Henry as the Countess of Rossilion,
Juan Chioran as Parolles).
Two strong characters, Juan Chioran as Parolles
and Tom Rooney as Lavache provide a lot of humour
through their words and antics and endear themselves
to the audience.

Unique tree brings community together
By Nina Van Lieshout
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — Exeter's Victoria
Park has a new metal tree, creat-
ed through a partnership between
South Huron District High School
(SHDHS) and a couple of local
businesses, with praise also given
to South Huron Coun. Cathy Seip,
who helped the project grow.
Goodalt Landscape Design, who
are re -designing the Huron Street
park, thought the metal tree
would be a nice community touch
for the area.
The tree, which has an estimat-
ed 50 petals, will each be spon-
sored by a member of the commu-
nity or a business who would like
to support the park. The names of
the donors will appear on a petal.
SHDHS manufacturing teacher
Tom Walsh says the project,
which took "the bulk of the semes-
ter," was created by two Grade 11
students and four Grade 10 stu-
dents, through "trial and error
and a lot of problem solving."
Walsh says the project, which
took "hundreds of hours" was a
great way for his students to gain
experience in the field while being
active in the community. He also
says "teamwork" was a big part of
the success of
the project.
Walsh says the
students really
took hold, while
he "tried to stay back as much as
possible."
SHDHS Grade 11 student Luke
Morrissey, who helped lead the
project says he feels "good" about
the project, and says it was
rewarding.
"It was a fun thing to do," says
Morrissey, adding weaving the
metal around the trunk was
tedious.
Seip says she's pleased with the
project, calling it "unique and
one -of -a -kind," and the communi-
ty should be proud.

Wearing a white T-shirt is often felt to be a
protection from the sun's harmful rays. However, tests
have shown that they have a SPF of less than 15 so
you should use sunscreen as well and try to abstain
from direct sunlight at mid-day. By the way, a dry T-
shirt is more protective than a wet one.
Mosquitoes can fin you from over 100 feet away. They do it by
detecting the carbon dioxide in your breath. So as well as having a good
sunscreen on hand, have a good insect repellent as well. It should
contain at least 15% DEET which is the best ingredient to keep the insects
away, especially mosquitoes.
Gout has been around for a millennia. It's an acute inflammation of the
smaller joints like the big toe, ankles, knees and elbows. The treatment
for this condition hasn't changed much over the past few decades.
Colchicine is used for acute flare-ups and allopurinol for routine use to
keep the problem from reoccurring. But these two older medications still
do the job well.
With all the concern about Lyme Disease, we should be aware of ticks
and how to remove them. Remove the tick with needle -nose tweezers by
grabbing the head or mouthparts (not the body, and pulling firmly
outward. Put it into a small jar of alcohol to kill it and keep it to show
your doctor. If you see a rash around the bite, or experience fever, joint
pain, chills or fatigue, seek medical help right away.
