HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Times Advocate, 2008-07-02, Page 13Wednesday, July 2, 2008 Times–Advocate 13 Exeter Public says goodbye to staff Zurich Scouts By Pat Bolen TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF EXETER — After over 50 years combined of working in schools, two staff members at Exeter Public said goodbye with a ceremony June 26. Teacher Darlene Ellison, who has taught for 30 years, and custodian Bob Crawford, who has been a cus- todian for 22 years, said they both started with the Huron County board of education. After starting her career in 1978 and working at several schools in the county, Ellison returned to Exeter Public in 1991 and has been there since. Crawford was custodian at South Huron District High School for 18 years before moving to Exeter Public four years ago. Ellison said there were several people who meant the most to her, including the children she taught who are now parents as well as the mentors who came before her. "They made me the person I am." Crawford says "I started with a smile, and I'm leaving with a smile." Saying goodbye — Exeter Public said goodbye to two retiring staff members on June 26, with teacher Darlene Ellison and custodian Bob Crawford both fin- ishing up their careers. (photo/Pat Bolen) New half pipe for Skate Park School project —The Grade 12 Construction class at South Huron District High School recently built and installed a new half pipe for the Exeter Skate Park.Teacher Jeff O'Brien said Exeter's Josey Christmas had the idea for the project, while Dean Ducharme of Huron Contractors donated the materials. O'Brien said,"After input from the skateboarding stu- dents and research on existing half pipes, a design was visualized.The Grade 12 Construction class at SHDHS was responsible for all aspects of the design and fabrication." Construction students in other classes also helped with the project."This project was an excellent learning opportunity for the students," O'Brien said.The half pipe was installed at the Skate Park June 17.
