RONA CASHWAY Wednesday, July 2, 2008 Times—Advocate 7 Decoration service at Kirkton Union Cemetery July 6 By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD - Church service: A joint church ser- vice was held at MacNaughton Park on Sunday morn- ing with people from Exeter United and Thames Road- Elimville United Churches attending. Ann Spivey played the piano and Rev. Paul Ross played the flute before the service commenced. Rev. Paul welcomed everyone and led in the invita- tion to worship and led in approaching God in prayer in unison. The first hymn Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus was sung. Rev. Judith Ritchie announced the next hymn I Love to Tell The Story which everyone sang. Rev. Judith gave the prayer of confession and every- one repeated "The Lord's Prayer" in unison. Rev. Paul told the children a story about the piece of wood he had. It was a tooth from a wooden gear from a grist mill which was very interesting. Everyone sang the hymn Jesus Loves Me. Rev. Judith read The Old Testament Lesson 1 Kings 5: 1-12. The choir under the leadership of Bob Robilliard sang Going Up to Glory accompanied by the pianist Ann Spivey. Rev. Paul read the New Testament Lesson Luke 6:12- 19, giving a reflection on "Why we are here",and pre- senting a very interesting talk on the Bible Christian Church. Everyone sang the hymn Count Your Blessings. Rev. Paul reflected "The Legacy of our Faith." Rev. Judith gave the announcements and spoke about the offering which Bob Coates and Tom Prout received. Everyone sang the Doxology. While the offering was being received Rev. Paul played the flute and Anne played the piano. Rev. Judith offered prayer. Rev. Paul led in prayer. Everyone sang the hymn When the Roll is Called Up Yonder and Rev. Judith gave the benediction. It was a wonderful service, although damp due to weather. GROWING UP WE ALWAYS HAD A SALAD WITH OUR MAIN MEAL OF THE DAY AND I GOT TO REALLY ENJOY THE VARIETY AND THE ADVENTURE OF SOMETHING NEW. THIS PARTICULAR SALAD IS ONE WE WOULD MAKE IN THE SUMMER FOR A NICE COMPLIMENT TO A PICNIC OR SIMPLE FARE! IT IS QUITE A DIFFERENT ASSEMBLY SO READ THROUGH THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY AND THEN ENJOY! 500 g cottage cheese 1 small pkg. orange jello 1-14 oz tin pineapple chunks 1 small tin mandarin oranges 1 small container of cool whip Pour jello as is (dry) on cottage cheese. Drain pineapple and oranges and mix with cool whip. Fold both mixtures together. Keeps a few days in the fridge, just stir fresh before serving! Municipal Corner VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Five (5) Public Members for the South Huron Economic Development Advisory Committee The South Huron Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) is being created to provide Council and staff both guidance and recom- mendations on matters relating to the attraction, expansion and reten- tion of business in South Huron. The Committee will actively assist the Council by fostering and promoting a positive community image, an enhanced quality of life and prosperity, viable urban and rural develop- ment and a healthy business environment for existing businesses. Applications are being accepted for five (5) community representatives from the general public, representing all areas of the Municipality to rep- resent five key economic sectors, namely, education, tourism, agriculture, manufacturing and retail merchants. A coy of the EDAC Terms of Reference is available at the Municipal Office or the municipal website. Applications will be accepted in writing until noon, Monday, July 21st, 2008. Applicants should include their reasons for applying, that they have read and understand the terms of reference for the Committee and are prepared to commit to regular attendance and participation at meetings between the Fall of 2008 and the end of 2010. In 2010 Joyce Doupe will be the new president. The reunion was held at KW Community Centre. There were some 50 people in attendance. They were from Vernon, B.C., Ottawa, Toronto, Barrie, Mitchell, and the surrounding area. Glenn and Dorothy Jeffery and Bill and Rhoda Rohde attended from this area.
