Man faces
more charges
ILDERTON — Matthew James
Thompson, 21, of North Middlesex,
charged last week with four counts
of attempted murder against police
officers, failing to stop for police
and breach of recognizance, is now
facing several other charges after a
June 18 court date.
Thompson is charged with
impaired operation of a motor vehi-
cle, dangerous driving, obstructing
police, uttering death threats, dis-
arming a police officer, escaping
custody, using a firearm in the
offence and three counts of assault-
ing a police officer. Disarming a
police officer carries a maximum
five year sentence on conviction.
On June 14 Middlesex OPP offi-
cers stopped Thompson, who was
driving his pickup truck on Ilderton
Road in Ilderton. Thompson initially
stopped his vehicle, then drove off,
dragging an officer.
Two additional cruisers were
called in for back up, with officers
shooting at Thompson's tires.
Thompson allegedly attempted to
grab a knife from his vehicle and
was restrained by police.
The driver continued to resist
police, grabbing one officer's
firearm. Thompson attempted to
shoot, but was unsuccessful.
Four officers were taken to hospi-
tal with minor injuries and later
released. Thompson was also treat-
ed for minor injuries and later
released from hospital.
Thompson remains in police cus-
tody and will appear in London
Court today (Wednesday).
