Man injures four officers
ILDERTON — A 21 -
year -old North
Middlesex man is facing
several charges after
injuring four police offi-
cers in Ilderton June 14.
The driver, Matthew
James Thompson is
charged with four counts
of attempted murder,
failing to stop for police
and breach of recog-
nizance. Thompson
remains in police cus-
tody.
Just after 1:30 a.m.,
Middlesex OPP officers
stopped a white 2002
GMC Sierra pickup truck
on Ilderton Road in
Ilderton.
The driver initially
stopped and spoke with
police then sped away,
dragging one of the offi-
cers.
The officer was able to
free himself and return
to his cruiser, pursuing
the pickup.
Two additional cruisers
arrived and conducted a
rolling block to stop the
pickup. The pickup
attempted to flee again,
ramming the cruisers.
Officers shot at the
tires of the pickup truck
to prevent serious injury
to themselves.
The driver attempted
to grab a knife from his
vehicle and was
restrained by police.
The driver continued to
resist police and
grabbed one officer's
firearm. The driver
attempted to shoot the
firearm but was unsuc-
cessful.
The four officers
injured were taken to
hospital and later
released.
The man was treated
for minor injuries and
released from hospital.
The investigation is
continuing. There was
no further information
as the T -A was going to
print yesterday
(Tuesday).
